Job Description

POSITION
Allspring Engineering and Technology is a cloud first organization. We are seeking an onsite database engineering and operations manager to provide strategic and tactical leadership for our cloud-based (AWS, Azure & OCI) database service offering. Our database offerings include SQL*Server and Oracle delivered both as RDS and server-based installs. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a team of two Database Administrators and enabling Service Desk and NOC analysts to perform repeatable database operations tasks, perform basic database incident resolution and fulfill basic database service requests.
We currently operate in a hybrid working model, whereby you will be required to work in-office 4 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Fiscal
Build an internal operating plan for the year, including all tooling and human resource requirements, force ranked, at all times.
Track and maintain quantities and costs of tools, instances, licenses, etc. appropriate for the Allspring database estate.

Create and maintain architectural diagram(s) of the database infrastructure.

Create and maintain operational procedures to run the database infrastructure. Ensure they are followed.

Develop and maintain service delivery metrics (e.g. production database uptime, volume of databases across the estate, number of cases resolved, etc.).
Report status of initiatives to management and through Weekly Business Reviews.
People Management
Ensure primary and secondary on call schedules are maintained.

Create an organization structure that includes the skills and capabilities to run the database infrastructure.
Hire and develop teams to meet the needs of the database infrastructure and your ability to serve the firm.

I. Architecture & Strategic Leadership

Pioneer AI/ML Data Enablement: Architect and implement data pipelines and infrastructure that specifically support data science and AI/ML model training, feature engineering, and inference serving, maintaining strong data governance throughout the lifecycle.
II. Hands-On Delivery & Operational Excellence
Engineering Oversight: Maintain a hands-on role in core design and code reviews, ensuring technical excellence, adherence to coding standards, and best practices across the engineering teams.
Delivery Management: Oversee the successful, on-time delivery of complex, cross-functional data programs (e.g., major migrations, new product data foundations). Drive agile execution, project planning, and resource alignment for maximum efficiency.

Required Qualifications

Hands-on Depth: Proven ability to remain hands-on in design and code architecture reviews. Deep expertise in Python, SQL, and distributed data processing (e.g., Spark/Databricks).

Qualifications

Assets
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field

Strong knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III Division 5
Familiarity with United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC), United States Department of Energy (DOE), and/or Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) licensing processes and regulatory requirements
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Background in advanced simulation and modeling techniques
Previous involvement in nuclear licensing or regulatory submissions

Key Responsibilities:
Identify and secure new engineering clients through strategic outreach, networking, and relationship-building.
Build and manage a team of civil engineers and designers, providing guidance and leadership throughout all project phases.

Implement quality control measures to ensure accuracy, compliance, and excellence in design documents.

Qualifications:

Position Overview
