    Harrison Clarke Ventures

Engineering manager job in San Francisco, CA

An early-stage, venture-backed company building a high-performance intelligence platform powered by advanced machine learning and proprietary data processing techniques is in the search for a VP of Engineering. The core mission is to bring order and clarity to vast, messy datasets by uncovering actionable insights through scalable systems and bleeding-edge algorithms. The company is solving one of the most painful problems in enterprise data operations: surfacing causality, anomalies, and performance metrics across fragmented systems. This requires deep technical thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and a culture rooted in adaptability and speed. The Role We're seeking a VP of Engineering to lead the company's growing technical team through its next phase. This is a unique opportunity for a startup-seasoned engineering leader who thrives in ambiguity, excels at building from the ground up, and knows how to scale both teams and technology. This is not a “hands-off” role. You'll be in the trenches helping shape architecture, unblock engineers, and guide strategy while also hiring, coaching, and building a resilient, high-performing culture. What You'll Own Leadership & Team Building: Scale the engineering org significantly, while maintaining velocity, trust, and strong developer culture Technical Stewardship: Guide architecture decisions across the data platform, distributed systems, and backend infrastructure Operational Excellence: Bring rigor and structure to how the company builds, deploys, and measure progress as the team and product scales Product Partnership: Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver fast, iterate quickly, and balance short-term execution with long-term bets Recruitment & Mentorship: Attract world-class engineers and help existing team members grow into leadership roles What You Bring Experience Scaling Startups: You've done the early-stage thing before (must-have) and still love it. Ideally, you've been through the zero to one journey more than once. Leadership Acumen: 4+ years in engineering leadership roles, with experience leading teams of 10+ engineers Technical Breadth: Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native environments, and modern data infrastructure Bias for Action: You love solving problems in real-time, iterating fast, and jumping into IC-level work when necessary Business/Tech Translator: You serve as a trusted bridge between engineering and the business, balancing the needs of scale, speed, and strategic bets Startup Mindset: Thrives in chaotic environments, doesn't wait for a process to be handed down - builds it if needed Ideal Signals History of leading engineering at startups where you helped scale from ~10 to 30+ engineers Comfortable interviewing, hiring, and managing ICs and leads Exposure to ML/AI systems, especially in data-heavy environments Fluent in open-source tooling and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP) Experience working with or around GPU-accelerated environments (a bonus) Why This Role This role sits at the sweet spot of early-stage opportunity and real momentum. But the technical and organizational challenges remain wide open and that's where you come in. If you're driven by impact, autonomy, and solving hard technical problems with sharp people - this is your moment.

  • Senior Vice President of Engineering

    Harrison Clarke

Engineering manager job in San Jose, CA

You're not joining to “see if it'll work” - you're joining to build it as it takes off. There's capital, traction, customers, and real runway. But the technical and organizational challenges remain wide open and that's where you come in. If you're driven by impact, autonomy, and solving hard technical problems with sharp people - this is your moment.
