Water resources staff oversee the non-potable and stormwater systems on campus and coordinate with the local water and sewer provider to ensure effective and resilient water services on campus. Water resources is part of Energy Services, which provides utilities on campus. This role involves a mix of technical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and system repair responsibilities. The engineering technician is tasked with diagnosing and repairing instrumentation and control systems, including programming PLC ladder logic, while collaborating with non-potable water customers to ensure system performance meets operational needs. Preventive maintenance duties include verifying plumbing connections for regulatory compliance, calibrating instrumentation, replacing consumables such as lamps and filters, and tuning control systems to maintain efficiency. In addition, the position will assist with troubleshooting and repairing stormwater and non-potable water infrastructure-such as underground pipes, cisterns, conduits, and electronic components-by coordinating with senior engineering staff and managing small repair projects. This role is full-time (30 hours/week ) non-exempt and will be compensated on an hourly basis. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instrumentation & Controls (30%) Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and control systems, including pumps, VFDs, and PLCs and various sensors. Repair and replace Collaborate with non-potable water customers to adjust operation sequences and instrument settings to ensure system performance meets operational needs. Using ladder logic program to adjust control sequences and instrument settings to optimize system efficiency. Basic repairs of instruments and controls for non-potable water systems including VFDs. Preventive Maintenance (30%) Conduct preventive maintenance on non-potable water systems. Verify plumbing connections for regulatory compliance. Ensure instrumentation is functioning properly; coordinate calibration as needed. Replace lamps, filters, and other consumables. Tune and test control systems to maintain optimal performance. System Troubleshooting & Repairs (30%) Diagnose and resolve issues in stormwater and non-potable water systems in coordination with senior engineering staff. Direct and complete repairs using a tiered approach: First preference: complete work with Water Resources (WR) staff. Second preference: complete a work order for facilities staff to complete work. Third preference: hire an outside contractor through facilities and/or purchasing. Maintain and repair infrastructure including: Underground pipes, structures, conduits, and electrical/plumbing appurtenances. Cisterns, controls, electronics, and instrumentation. Administrative Support (10%) Assist with budget preparation and monitoring. Address billing questions and customer inquiries. Support customer relations by providing timely communication and solutions. Required Qualifications Experience with PLC ladder logic programming, preferably on Allen Bradley equipment. Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks such as instrument calibration and control system tuning. Ability to troubleshoot and complete simple repairs with electrical and mechanical components such as VFDs and pumps. Proven ability to diagnose and resolve system issues in coordination with engineering staff and facilities teams. Associates degree in a relevant technical field, or at least 5 years relevant experience. Unit weight testing requires lifting a 50-pound container of concrete. Six-inch compressive strength test cylinders weigh 30 pounds each. Volumetric air content testing requires repeated swinging of the 30-pound concrete-filled test device from knee-level to head-level. Soil Density Testing: The technician must be able to repeatedly drop a 25-pound drop slide hammer to drive sampling tubes into the ground and then manually excavate the sampling tubes back out of the ground with mattock and shovel. Must be able to load and unload a 90-pound case containing a nuclear density gauge and carry the 50-pound nuclear density gauge by hand for up to 50 yards over uneven ground. Hand Auger and Penetrometer: Must be able to manually hand auger down to 10 feet into soil to obtain samples and perform portable dynamic cone penetrometer testing. The hand auger may require up to 50 pounds of pull to remove it from wet soil conditions. The total weight of the dynamic cone penetrometer ranges from 20 to 40 pounds. Operation of the penetrometer requires repeated raising and dropping of the 15 pound slide weight.

Exciting Responsibilities Await: Install, maintain, and enhance electronic components and systems on our advanced high-speed manufacturing equipment. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and electronic issues, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime. Tackle complex electrical challenges, including converting systems from 480V AC to 24V DC, to support diverse operational needs. Collaborate closely with our engineering and production teams to implement innovative upgrades and improvements that set new industry standards. Conduct meticulous preventive maintenance routines to uphold peak performance and minimize downtime. Document your contributions with precision in our state-of-the-art maintenance tracking systems (CMMS), ensuring a transparent and efficient workflow. What We're Looking For: An innovative thinker with an Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Demonstrated expertise (5 years or more) as an Electronic Technician in a high-speed manufacturing environment, with a passion for leveraging technology to drive operational excellence. (A combination of education and experience will be considered.) Proficiency in deciphering electrical and electronic schematics and technical manuals, coupled with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving. Identify PLC problems, troubleshoot and maintain updated documentation and wiring changes. * Install and/or change the layout of machines and mechanical equipment in a plant layout and assemble as necessary, conforming to building codes and similar specifications. * Perform duties such as dismantling, moving, installing or repairing shafting conveyors hoists and other equipment. * Use measuring devices in constructing machine foundations and installing machines and equipment in correct position. * Receive wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications and instructions covering scheduled and emergency repair installation and inspection work to be done. * Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and principles wiring specifications codes properties of various materials and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment. * Analyze all types of circuits, wiring, diagrams, networks and drawings as required to install, repair, adjust, calibrate, construct, modify, replace or service all types of electronic devices and systems, including communication systems, electronic gauges, controls and regulator power and distribution control equipment measuring recording processing and indicating devices. * Perform industrial truck repair and maintenance work on all industrial and small motorized equipment with gas, diesel, propane and electrical motors. * Install, repair and maintain refrigeration and air condition systems and equipment. Operate and maintain heating systems, boilers, pumps, mixes, compressors and other related equipment. * Make sketches of parts and layouts design and construct adaptations or conversions of component parts including the necessary phases of development work. * Perform Preventative Maintenance inspection of assigned equipment report findings and take appropriate action. * Write and perform maintenance work orders as required. * Make mechanical and electrical repairs as required in servicing electronic equipment including assembling modifying repairing and replacement of individual electronic parts within components circuit modules and printed circuit boards. Service electronic equipment by checking, testing and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards and similar electronic devices. * Maintain, install or repair all communication cables power distribution cables and wiring splicing as required. * Perform any and all types of plant wide electrical maintenance, including installation of electrical conduit. Determine need, analyze and make all necessary running adjustments, repairs, overhauls and replacement of parts to all electrical equipment. * Maintain performance inventory and maintenance records for electrical and electronic equipment. * Advise operators, mechanics and other electrical maintenance personnel of standard operating procedures and requirements for electronic and electrical equipment and controls. Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken. Operate equipment and assist production as directed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE * High school diploma required. * Mechanically inclined, familiar with hand tools and PPE requirements. * Possess heavy industrial/manufacturing experience in a high speed operation, working with hydraulic pneumatic driven equipment. Must be able to independently program, troubleshoot, and repair PLC s and VFD s and create new programs. * Be able to demonstrate proficiency with specific PLC systems, including but not limited to Siemens AllenBradley Rockwell etc. * Have 3+ years manufacturing industry electrical experience or a combination of training and experience * Ability to pass the Ramsay ElectTest at 50% or higher.
