Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform assignments of a varied nature, requiring a solid understanding of the fundamental of CAD, mapping, and 3D modeling.
Perform work with general guidance and supervision or provide support to more experienced personnel.
Provide support to field staff.
Interpret field notes and sketches.
Perform technical computations and produce large scale, complex drawings.
Provide and gather data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, construction, and other purposes.
Assist in creating plans, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys.
Attend meetings as needed with Project Managers and Surveyors, in addition to clients and consultants.

Job Qualifications:
High School Graduate or equivalent required.
Associate Degree and/or Civil Technician Certificate a plus.
2 or more years of AutoCAD experience, Civil 3D experience is a preferred.
Surveying CAD experience preferred (surface modeling, topographic drawing production, point calculations, etc.)
Experience with Revit, Three-dimensional CAD, and/or point cloud experience is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
NOTE: This position will work primarily in the office, preparing drawings of data collected by field staff.

General Position Description:
TDOT Engineering Technician 1:
This is the entry level. The employee will work in a training capacity under the direct supervision of a foreman. TDOT Engineering Technician 3:
This is the experienced level. The employee will work under the general, indirect supervision of a foreman, with the authority for direct oversight in certain complex decision-making situations. The employee will be expected to work both independently, and in a team-setting, to perform highly complex pre-construction, construction, and material duties. This position will assist with field/laboratory training and serve as a mentor to junior staff, with all unusual issues being reported to a supervisory level.
Responsibilities

The essential duties for TDOT Engineering Technician I, II and III include:
* Performing preventive maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment, including calibrating lab and mobile testing and/or survey equipment to ensure proper functioning and performing operator-level maintenance such as topping off fluid levels, greasing service points, and maintaining tire pressure
* Judging whether a sample is appropriate for testing and conducting testing and calculations in the areas such as aggregate, soils, asphalt, concrete, density, field measurements, and manufactured products
* Performing instrument work in conjunction with various laboratory and field tests, surveys, and inspections
* Reading, interpreting, and applying contract documents, legal documents, and project design plans as part of daily inspection activities

* Operating light duty vehicles and other equipment, including operating equipment to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges

* Communicating with internal and external customers, including local businesses, local governments, contractors, and first responders

* Inspecting traffic control during construction operations, during events to maximize system operations, and in assistance to law enforcement officers after a traffic related event to ensure traffic flow and system operations
* Ensuring the quality of pre-cast and pre-stressed construction components for acceptance of usage
Additional duties for TDOT Engineering Technician III include:
* Assisting in the training of employees by providing on-the-job training and guidance as needed to facilitate learning and development.
* Providing feedback to preconstruction units on project design elements that resulted in change orders, schedule delays, and construction quality issues
* Providing feedback to Headquarters Divisions on improvements for project development, processes, and programs

The Role
As a Controls Engineering Intern, you will collaborate with the Controls Engineering team, Technical Leaders, and cross-functional teams to support meeting the vision of the Controls group. You'll contribute to project success by helping with documentation, troubleshooting, and integration tasks while learning from experienced engineers in a collaborative environment.
