An SMT Process Engineer Tech/Engineer provides technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance to internal and external customers regarding Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Plated Through Hole (PTH) equipment, processes, and related issues, ensuring optimal machine performance and production quality.
Key Responsibilities
Process Optimization:
Collaborate with engineering teams/Customer to optimize SMT processes, including solder paste application, component placement, reflow profiles, and quality control procedures.
Analyze production data to identify trends, potential issues, and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement process improvements to enhance production efficiency and yield.
Technical Support:
Respond to technical inquiries from operators, engineers, maintenance personnel and Customer regarding SMT equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and component placement issues.
Assists/Lead diagnosing problems through analysis of error codes, machine logs, and visual inspection, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
Provide remote troubleshooting support via phone, email, and remote access tools.
Conduct on-site troubleshooting and repairs as needed, including adjustments to machine parameters and component placement settings.
Experience:

This team is building segmented firewalling directly in the data plane-a first-of-its-kind innovation not available elsewhere in the industry. Your Impact
In this role, you will design, build, and optimize the data plane for Cisco Hypershield using C++, P4, and hardware offload technologies such as DPUs and NPUs. You'll work hands-on with AMD DPU specifications, packet processing pipelines, and performance-critical components from day one.
Success in this role means operating in a fast-paced model-quickly absorbing the architecture, contributing to data-plane development immediately, and delivering reliable, high-performance code with minimal hand-holding.
You will:
* Design and implement data-plane features using P4, microcode, and C++ across DPU/NPU architectures.
* Bring up hardware platforms, integrate SDKs, and debug low-level packet-processing behavior.
* Work from AMD technical specifications to define and build performant pipelines.
* Collaborate closely with internal teams (control plane, management plane, platform) to deliver end-to-end datapath functionality.
* Drive system-level architecture discussions and influence design choices for high-throughput and low-latency packet processing.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* 7+ years of experience in packet processing (e.g., DPDK, TCP reassembly, high-throughput pipelines).
* Programming experience in C/C++ and experience with P4 or microcode/U-code development.
* Experience bringing up platforms or ASICs in Linux-based environments.
* Hands-on experience building or leveraging hardware acceleration with DPUs or NPUs.
Preferred Qualifications

This technical leader role requires extensive experience leading the development and implementation of AV Behavior Validation methodologies across a broad range of L4 autonomous features. **What You'll Do (Responsibilities)**
+ Referencing ISO 8800, ISO 21448 and AV industry best practices, develop the strategy for ensuring safe AI/ML and autonomous system development, deployment and maintenance.
+ Work with software, data science and systems engineering teams to ensure GM safely trains new machine learning models to enable autonomous systems.
+ Ensure continuity of safety as we enhance existing machine learning models to increase performance.
+ Set the safety standard for how we prototype, test and deploy new AI solutions, including Generative AI
+ Set the strategy for testing and validation of data sets and develop an assurance plan.
+ Set the strategy for how we systematically break down operational design domain components and driving behavior components and how these are validated in aggregate and on a per behavior level.

Position Overview
We are seeking motivated interns to join our heavy civil construction team. This role provides hands-on experience supporting large-scale projects while working alongside experienced professionals in the field. The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is looking for an Engineering Student Intern to work on our NSF project, over the duration from November 2025 to February 2026. The student will work with the scientist team to:
1. Design a Li-ion battery fire sensor system
2. Conduct experiments to evaluate the sensor system
3. Analyze data to improve sensitivity while reducing false alarms.
This position is located in-person at DRI's Reno, NV campus.
Required Qualifications
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
* Proficiency in Python programming
* Understanding of basic signal processing, and data analysis techniques
* Experience designing and fabricating custom parts (e.g., a protective housing for a sensor system)
Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with analog and digital circuits, including experience building and troubleshooting simple circuits, integrating analog and digital sensors, and working with digital communication protocols
* Experience with data acquisition, sensor interfacing, and/or hardware control
* Knowledge of embedded systems and experience working with microcontrollers and microcomputers, especially Raspberry Pi
* Experience with machine learning techniques
