Englewood High School company history timeline

1868

Also in 1868, developer L. W. Beck gave 10 acres to Englewood for the Cook County Normal School (later Chicago State University), a teacher's college serving the Chicago region.

1873

Englewood High School was established in 1873 at 6201 South Stewart Avenue.

1892

The young iron worker decided that the Woodlawn neighborhood needed a dining establishment to feed his fellow workers, so in 1892 he opened Daley's Restaurant at 803 East 63rd Street in the Englewood neighborhood.

1920

By 1920 the population soared to 86,619 and Englewood's shopping district at Halsted and 63rd was the second busiest in the city.

1929

In 1929, Sears developed a $1.5 million store here.

1957

Bernard Jeffrey McCullough (better known as comedian Bernie Mac) was born in Chicago on October 5, 1957, and lived at the corner of 66th and Blackstone Avenue until the City condemned the building and tore it down.
