In 1972, the firm SAP was started in Germany.

SAP launched its first financial accounting system in 1973.

By 1975, MRP software was running in hundreds of large companies though it was only affordable for those with deep pockets aka the heavyweights.

JD Edwards was founded in 1977 in Denver, Colorado, as a supplier for software for the IBM System i; an early mini-computer used by many businesses before the turn of the century.

A Netherlandish company founded in 1978, BAAN entered the ERP market with the belief that the internet is the “ultimate enabler”, and it's easy to see that philosophy in the approach to their particular software solution.

P.O.P. Inc., dba Poynter’s Business Products was started in 1983 as an office equipment sales and service organization on Green Street in Marietta, Ohio.

It’s the second largest software company in the world after Microsoft, and has been in the ERP space since 1987.

They released their first ERP system, R/2, in 1992.

In 1994, the opportunity to purchase Best Office Machines became available.

On April 1, 1998, Nosillod, Inc. dba Best Office Machines was dissolved and merged with P.O.P. Inc.

The idea of deploying software applications via the web using the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model began in 1999.

Gartner came up with the term “ERP II” in 2000 to christen a new generation of ERP systems.

They launched their ERP system, OneWorld, as a flexible alternative to larger products with a reach into many mid-market organizations. It was acquired by Oracle in 2003 for $1.8 billion.

OILspace became Aspect Enterprise Solutions in 2009 to mark the company’s expansion into broader commodities markets, including metals, steel, biofuels, coal, agriculture and other commodities.

In 2019, the company once again changed its name to better reflect its business model.
