Entertainment Cruises company history timeline

2006

Alcatraz Cruises, a Hornblower subsidiary, won a 10-year National Park Service contract and began providing exclusive transportation services to Alcatraz Island in 2006.

2008

The San Francisco Business Times named Alcatraz Cruises a Green Business of the Year in 2008, one year after bestowing Most Admired CEO of the Year honors on Hornblower Cruises & Events’ Founder and CEO Terry MacRae.

2011

2011 – A second 130,000-ton ship, Carnival Magic, enters service.

2013

The ship is later transformed with a $155 million makeover and renamed Carnival Sunshine, entering service in 2013.

2016

2016 – The largest “Fun Ship” ever constructed – the 133,500-ton, 3,954-passenger Carnival Vista – is introduced offering a number of unique innovations including an onboard brewery, the SkyRide aerial attraction and the first IMAX Theatre ever offered at sea.

2018

2018 – A second Vista-class ship, Carnival Horizon, enters service.

2021

2021 – Mardi Gras, a new class of 180,000-ton ship and the first Carnival ship ever powered by Liquefied Natural Gas enters service from Port Canaveral.
