About this Opportunity!
The Montana Department of Livestock is accepting applications for a Compliance Technician. This position will work in the Brands Enforcement Division. The division is comprised of a core group of Helena office staff that manage all the data and paperwork generated by the essential group of field employees and livestock markets. The Brands Enforcement Division interacts extensively with livestock producers, livestock markets, brand owners, our own staff, the public and other state agencies.
Agency Description:
The Department of Livestock has proudly served and protected the heritage of the Montana Livestock industry since 1885. The Brands Enforcement Division Goal is to provide the livestock industry with professional law enforcement and investigative work in the tracking of livestock ownership and in the deterrence and/or resolution of related criminal activities.
Position Description:
This position is responsible for Field Staff Remittance Reconciliation as well as Field Staff Compliance, and is the back-up for Brand Lien Filings, in addition to other duties outlined in the position description. The position is required to answer the main phone line as needed and provide quality assistance to customers and coworkers. The position conducts extensive research for staff and other entities needing inspection information, compiles data for the annual and other ad-hoc reports and performs a variety of additional duties as assigned. Working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This position is not remote and works from our offices in Helena, MT.
Major Duties or Responsibilities:
This position verifies that field staff are collecting, documenting, and remitting the correct fees for all field activities requiring the collection of a fee. It reviews fee deposits and the documentation for field activities such as inspections and permits and determines whether proper amounts were collected and whether the employees' followed regulations regarding timeliness of deposit. This process is completed daily. In addition, this position receives multiple types of official brands enforcement forms, including official cattle movement documentation (inspections and permits), investigator correspondence, and state employee remittances.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
* Must have at least intermediate skill level and understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook:
* Must be able to follow standard operating procedures and training plans with diligent attention to detail.
* Must have knowledge and ability in operation of custom software systems:
* Brand database (Axiom) and Fort Supply Central Office
* Must aptitude and skill in regulatory customer service:
* High standards of professionalism,
* Polite but firm conduct,
* Displays a patient, deliberate, thorough, helpful, kind, understanding demeanor when explaining regulations.
* Must have data entry and review skills.
* Familiarity with Montana livestock regulations.
* Must possess expert personal management skills:
* Must be committed to continuous improvement:
* Must follow all Brands Enforcement, department and state standards of conduct:
Education and Experience:
* Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years in a similar office environment with daily customer service and computer operation is required.
* Preferred: Associate degree. At least 4 years' experience in a similar office environment, exceptional computer skills, and a thorough understanding of the livestock industry and Montana livestock regulations.
