What Does An Environmental Health Aide Do At Iroquois Nursing Home, Inc.

* The Environmental Aide, will function in a supportive role to assist the Housekeeping Department, in maintaining the environment on each unit.
* The Aide must demonstrate a working knowledge of, but not limited to, the following:
* The process of aging as it relates to health care.
* Resident rights and dignity regulations.
* Resident safety, standard precautions, basic principles of infection control, fire and emergency drills, HIPAA, Corporate Compliance.
* Specific duties and procedures which may include, but are not limited to:
* Making resident beds
* Cleaning of dining room after meals
* Cleaning/straightening resident closets and dresser drawers
* Picking up shower rooms/bathrooms
* Making rounds to ensure all resident care items are labeled and stored properly
* Making rounds of all resident rooms, assuring that all rooms are neat and residents have their call bell within reach at end of shift.
* Picking up late trays and emptying them for pick-up
* Transporting resident to dining room for meals
* Passing personal laundry as directed
* Delivering mail/newspapers
* Cleaning of equipment (wheel chairs, beds, shower stretcher, commodes, walkers, lifts
* Other duties as assigned by the Housekeeping Manager or Food Service Director

* Demonstrates a positive demeanor which will facilitate good teamwork between co-workers.
* Communicates with others , both in department and outside the department, effectively.
* Be aware of the importance of listening, tone of voice, language, to give a clear and consistent message.
* Identifies safety risks, provides feedback and helps address safety issues.
* Actively follows safety policies, procedures and practices.
* Performs duties in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
* Assists in keeping corridors clear of clutter, equipment, furniture, ect. for safety and aesthetic purposes.
* Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.
* Approaches conflict in a
* constructive manner.
* Helps to identify problems, offer solutions and participates
* in their resolution.
* Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient,
* physician, employees and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.
* Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
* Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner to assure personal safety and that of coworkers and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
