Environmental sampling technician job description

Kelly Science is seeking a **Sample Receiving Technician** for a growing environmental company located in **East Longmeadow, MA.**

**** This position can be part-time or full-time employment****
**Pay** : $17-19/hour

**Shift:** 2 nd 3:00pm-11:30pm

**Employment Type** : Temp-to-Hire

**Job Duties:**

+ Provides a variety of services using warehouse and lab support knowledge covering multiple areas of sample administration, including receiving, scanning, storage, preparation, shipping, and disposal.

+ Ensuring all paperwork is completed entirely and correctly; making sure all information on paperwork matches samples received.

+ Determines short-holds and rush samples and prioritizes based project requirements.

+ Communicate with laboratory personnel, project managers, couriers and other entities within the company when needed.

+ Reviews, completes, and processes various standard types of logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.

+ Picks up, transports, and delivers samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.

+ Cleans, maintains, and stocks supplies, tools, paperwork, and related items; disposes of materials and samples using well-established guidelines and instructions.

+ Provides fundamental support in the application and assistance to staff and management regarding sample, equipment, and shipping/receiving administration policies, programs, and practices.

+ Assists in the review and implementation of sampling, equipment, and shipping/receiving administration policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations, and management needs.

+ Assists with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receives guidance and direction or escalates when required.

+ Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

**Requirements:**

+ High School Diploma required

+ Previous sample receiving experience preferred

+ Able to work well in fast-paced environments

+ Works well in team environments

+ Knowledge of sample receiving and shipping/receiving preferred

* Performs environmental monitoring of process areas.
* Performs high purity water, clean steam, and compressed gas systems sampling.
* Participates in the overtime and weekend schedule as required.
* Participates in on-call scheduling as required
* Maintains laboratory supplies, media, and reagents inventory.
* Assists in coordinating equipment maintenance and calibration.
* Participates in training of other employees.
* Uses Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for sample and sample test result tracking.
* May perform basic microbial identification.
* May perform acceptance testing of commercially prepared microbiological culture media.
* Maintaining laboratory supplies, media, and reagents inventory
* May perform routine utility testing
* Bachelors Degree in Life Sciences
* Relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries
* Environmental Monitoring experience preferred
* Microbial identification procedure knowledge
* Knowledge cGMP is a plus
* Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
* Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
* Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
* Experience with LIMS preferred
* Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

We are adding full-time team members to the Sample Receiving Department as Client Services Tech 1. This entry level position can begin your career in environmental science. No Experience required! We train on the job!

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday; Full-Time
• High probability of paid overtime

Tasks for the day:

• Unloading and receiving client samples
• Triage – determine what type of samples are received
• Unpacking coolers
• Organizing and labeling client samples
• Prepping samples for the labs
• Inspecting laboratory waste containers, characterizing waste, and ensuring compliant handling and disposal.
• Using up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects

Attention to detail and teamwork are key!

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license (often required)

• Lab setting – subject to chemicals, fumes, gasses, noxious odors, and related items in a lab and samples setting
• Setting requires standing for extended periods of time
