The Scientist will play a key role in supporting the development, validation, and manufacturing of Novel Microdevices molecular diagnostic assays and reagents. This cross-functional position bridges R&D, Quality Control, and Manufacturing, ensuring that new assays and production lots meet performance, consistency, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on scientist who enjoys both bench-level experimentation and structured quality processes, thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, and contributes to the continuous improvement and commercialization of diagnostic products.
Key Responsibilities
Assay Development & Verification
Support R&D in the design, optimization, and verification of new molecular diagnostic assays (e.g., qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, reagent formulation).
Conduct feasibility, design transfer, and V&V (Verification & Validation) testing to ensure product performance and regulatory compliance.
Perform analytical testing to assess assay sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, and robustness.
Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data to cross-functional teams.
Reagent & Manufacturing Support
Collaborate with Manufacturing to scale reagent formulations, optimize processes, and ensure lot-to-lot consistency.
Conduct in-process, release, and stability testing on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
Develop and refine SOPs, batch records, and test methods for reagent preparation and product release.
Support troubleshooting of reagent production issues and contribute to process improvements.
Execute and document QC methods in compliance with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, and IVDR standards.
Support method validation, transfer, and verification in alignment with CLSI and internal quality requirements.
Participate in investigations of nonconformances, OOS/OOT events, and CAPA development.
Ensure accurate and complete documentation consistent with design control, traceability, and QMS standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with QA, R&D, and Operations to support technology transfer and readiness for scale-up.
Provide technical input for product characterization, design reviews, and risk assessments (ISO 14971).
Train and mentor laboratory staff on analytical methods, data integrity, and best practices.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen product performance and operational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD or Masters degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life science field,
or equivalent experience
in assay development or molecular diagnostics; with at least 2 years of relevant experience;
OR
Bachelors degree in a related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience in assay development, molecular biology, or quality control within a regulated IVD or life sciences environment.
Hands-on experience with qPCR and molecular assay techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, amplification, or detection.
Working knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, or similar quality management systems.
Strong experimental design, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills.
Excellent documentation, organization, and communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate across R&D, Manufacturing, and QA/QC.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in IVD assay development and design transfer from prototype to production.
Familiarity with reagent formulation, lyophilization, or stability studies.
Prior involvement in V&V studies, design control documentation, or regulatory submissions.
Knowledge of statistical tools for data trending and method validation (e.g., JMP, Minitab, or equivalent).
Exposure to risk management (ISO 14971) and document control systems.

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for Hanover Campus (factory, research and develop facility and distribution center) to ensure environmental compliance and continuously improve reduce our environmental impact. Field management and oversight responsibilities may include management of all lower\-tier subcontractors, management of health and safety plans, taking part in client discussions, pre\-project preparations, field support, and troubleshooting as needed. As projects may dictate, the Environmental Technician will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mixing and injection equipment. Working with clients in the field to ensure their project needs and challenges are being met and exceeded and provide them with a resource for technical support.
The Environmental Technician will work closely with the Director of Remediation Services to monitor project expenditures to ensure projects remain within budget. The Environmental Technician will be expected to establish relationships with clients and be a go\-to resource for technical support leading up to and throughout projects. The Environmental Technician will be expected to be a seller\/doer in that his technical capabilities will be effectively utilized to introduce and enhance TWS Environmental's technical capabilities to its clients.
When and if available to lend assistance, the Environmental Technician will be expected to support TWS Environmental's other core service lines to include but not limited to stand\-alone support services as an additional resource for field support as may be needed.
Overview of Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Implementation of remedial designs and scopes of work in a safe and efficient manner
Liaise with Director of Remediation Services to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals
Evaluate regularly the efficiency of operational procedures and apply improvements
Work with the Director of Remediation Services to help manage procurement processes for the Remediation Services Program\/Division and coordinate materials and resources allocation
Oversee client support processes and organize them to enhance client satisfaction
Implementation of policies for the Remediation Services Program\/Division
Build relationships with external clients
Gather project data and provide to Director of Remediation Services while assisting with evaluation of overall performance and assisting with analyzing and interpretation of such data
Ensure that the company's standards for quality, equipment, and performance are maintained on remediation projects as well as when assisting with TWS's other service lines referenced above
Ensure fixed assets are preserved and initiate recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to existing property
Alert Director of Remediation Services of cost and labor over runs on projects. Assist with making recommendations and implementation solutions to problems related to the same
Supervise onsite lower\-tier subcontractors on site and provide constructive feedback
Promote and be a champion for industry best health and safety practices
Manage applicable budgets and control expenses effectively
Assist with training and developing new TWS staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
The Environmental Technician will work outdoors in all weather conditions, as needed. This position requires travel outside of our local market, up to but not limited to 60% of the time, to job sites on the East Coast from the New England area down to Florida, and some areas in the Mid\-West. Flights, meals and hotels are paid for by the company.
