What You Bring to the Table:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related natural science field of study from an accredited college or university; may consider a combination of experience and/or education, such as 10 years of environmental experience in lieu of degree, with High School Diploma or GED.
Ideally, 7+ years of experience in environmental permitting, assessment, compliance, consulting, or remediation. Experience with North Carolina and Virginia environmental regulations preferred.
Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record to drive company and personal vehicles to perform required tasks.
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
Pipeline or oil & gas industry background a plus.
Completion of ICS Introductory Training (e.g., ICS 100, 200, 700).
OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus but not required.
TWIC card, First Aid/CPR certification is a plus but not required.

The Division of Soil and Water Conservation (Division) administers a comprehensive statewide program for conserving the state's soil and water resources. Its mission is to foster voluntary, incentive-driven management of soil, water, and related natural resources for the benefit of the environment, economy, and all citizens. This mission is achieved on private working lands through a partnership approach of federal, state, local and private entities. The Division is staffed by 48 employees and is divided into five (5) program areas -Administration, District Operations, Nonpoint Source Section, Engineering Services Section, and the Environmental Services Section.
The Division provides funding and technical assistance to grantees completing stream repair projects following natural disasters. The Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP) is funded through a non-recurring state appropriation. The purpose of the program is to fund projects that help reduce flooding, restore streams, and protect the integrity of drainage infrastructure across North Carolina's waterways. StRAP works in conjunction with the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP) and other programs to assist local sponsors with stream repair projects associated with Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters.
* Assisting grantees in identification of streams and properties eligible for funding. The position will assist sponsors in site assessments of potential sites. The position will join local sponsors during site visits, which may include travel through streams, woods, and difficult terrain. This position may provide guidance to landowners for the implementation of stream repair projects.
* Providing technical assistance to grantees implementing stream repair projects. Provide technical and administrative support, recommendations, and implementation assistance on a wide range of conservation programs. The position will assist local sponsors on the different funding sources available and identify which funding sources best meet their needs. The position will serve as a resource to grantees the best management practices needed for stream repair and disaster recovery projects. This may include providing recommendations on what practices are needed to repair damage and improve stream flow, participating in trainings, and performing outreach to sponsor staff & partners.
* Perform inspections for streams and projects completed through StRAP and other programs. The position will assist sponsors in ensuring that completed work is compliant with the project Scope of Work and relevant program guidelines. When work does not meet program guidelines, the position will instruct sponsors on what additional work is needed to ensure work is completed correctly.
* Facilitating collaboration between local sponsors and other connected organizations. Your Role:
This role is ideal for professionals seeking to expand their responsibilities in project execution, technical reporting, and mentoring junior staff. As an Environmental Engineer or Geologist, you will play a key role in leading and supporting environmental due diligence, site investigation, and remediation projects through a blend of fieldwork and office-based tasks.
Conduct and oversee field activities, including soil and groundwater sampling, drilling operations, and monitoring well installation
Analyze environmental data and contribute to technical reports and regulatory documentation
Collaborate on project planning and execution to ensure quality standards and regulatory compliance
Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders
Prepare proposals, manage project schedules, and track deadlines
Evaluate budgets and support business development initiatives
About You:
You have a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
You have a minimum of 5 years of professional environmental engineering or geology experience
You have a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license required
You have strong project management and leadership skills
You have excellent business development abilities, and existing client relationships in the local market are preferred

This role combines client relationship development, business growth, and technical project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Build and expand client relationships with oil & gas, industrial, power & utility, and commercial clients while supporting growth of existing accounts and internal teams.
Lead initiatives that advance GES's environmental service lines, including sales, program management, and project execution.
Identify, pursue, and secure environmental projects by preparing proposals, leading sales presentations, and representing GES at industry trade shows and professional organizations.
Manage and deliver environmental permitting, including:
Stream cross sections, long profiles, BEHI/NBS, and environmental sampling (chemical/biological).
Stream assessments (perennial, intermittent, ephemeral) and stream reach condition studies.
401/404 permitting documents and agency coordination.
Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (CWA, RHA Section 10, ESA, NHPA, NEPA, etc.).
Utilize or oversee Rosgen Natural Channel Design methods (Levels I-IV) and other natural channel design approaches.
Support modeling and permitting efforts (HEC/HEC RAS, FEMA CLOMR/LOMR).
Prepare and deliver full plan sets for NCD projects requiring IRT, state, or local approvals.
Cross-sell GES services including permitting, site characterization, remediation, PFAS/emerging contaminants, ecological services, vapor intrusion mitigation, air quality, and brownfields redevelopment.
Manage high-visibility projects, including scope definition, permitting, compliance support, and contract development/negotiation.
Publish thought leadership, present at industry conferences, and generate new business through professional networks.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
15+ years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in client development, proposal generation, and sales presentations.
Strong technical background in environmental permitting, assessment, and/or remediation.
Proven success in revenue generation and client development with established industry and regulatory contacts.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical writing skills.
Professional certifications/licensure (PE, PG, CPG, PhD, etc.) highly preferred.
Willingness to travel to client sites, industry trade shows, and technical meetings as needed.
