Environmental scientist/geologist job description

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related disciple.
• 2-6+ years of related experience. Must have hands on fieldwork & office experience in the environmental consulting field. Experience with drilling oversight and the ability to lead subsurface events is a plus. Familiarity with Underground Storage Tank regulations is highly preferred. Exxon Mobil project site experience is a major plus!
• Working knowledge of Texas' environmental regulations and RCRA and CERCLA State/Federal regulations.
• Must possess excellent communication and technical writing skills and be able to independently prepare a complete deliverable report with a focus on QA/QC.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, geologic logging/cross section. programs required. Experience with database/graphics management (Access, GIS, CAD) a plus.
• Must be detail-oriented, and a team player with good communication, analytical, organization, and time management skills.
• A Background Check and an Alcohol/Drug Screening are required.
• Must have a clean driving record and be able to drive a company vehicle.

System One has a long term opportunity for an Environmental Scientist / Geologist to support field activities associated with a Capital Improvement Project in NYC. The scope of work includes conducting upwind and downwind perimeter air monitoring and documentation of construction activities as required by a Site Management Plan for the site. The air monitoring results, documentation and photographs will be included in a Periodic Review Report that will be submitted to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). This position may be physically demanding and will require safe lifting of monitoring equipment in an outdoor industrial environment, under variable weather conditions.

Work: Monday thru Friday / 7:00a to 4:00p with overtime possible
Candidates must have AIR MONITORING, DRILLING & SAMPLING experience.
Candidates must have 40hr OSHA HAZWOPER Cert (and 8 hr. refresher)
Candidates must have 8hr OSHA HAZWOPER SUPERVISOR Cert.
The Environmental Scientist / Geologist Requirements: Minimum of 4- year degree in geology, environmental engineering, science or construction related field
1 to 3 years of construction/environmental/engineering experience.
Experience DRILLING, GROUNDWATER SAMPLING and AIR MONITORING.
40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER training (and up to date refresher) required.
8 hour OSHA HAZWOPER SUPERVISOR Cert. required.
First Aid & CPR certifications will be required to start but can obtain after offer acceptance.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Applies experience and increasing proficiency in the use of environmental practices, and company policies.
Conduct air monitoring, photo documentation, and follow work plan and safety plan requirements.
Regularly interacts with other employees and representatives from a variety of suppliers, subcontractors, and clients on project.
Report writing experience, writing investigation reports and doing logs.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: This assignment will include working in an industrial environment, potentially under adverse weather conditions.
May require the equivalent of lifting of up to 50lbs repeatedly over the course of a four to five hour period.
Long periods of standing and walking required.
Familiarity with tasks and techniques typically associated with environmental field work.
Requires a fundamental knowledge of environmental sites, and sound safety minded judgment
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing.
Successful completion of an occupational capacity evaluation, drug and alcohol testing and background check is required.

Specific responsibilities will include:

* Prepare technical correspondence, project proposals, reports, work plans, and project specifications
* Coordinate and implement project permitting
* Coordinate and oversee site characterization
* Coordinate and implement remedial system pilot testing
* Coordinate and oversee remediation system construction
* Coordinate and oversee startup/commissioning of remediation systems
* Support in the optimization evaluation of remediation systems
* Interpretate/evaluate of environmental regulations
* Data compilation, reduction, and interpretation
* Manage clients and develop business opportunities
* Mentor staff

Successful skills & qualifications:

* Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
* PE or PG will be highly regarded
* At least 5 years of experience in environmental consulting including environmental permitting & compliance, remediation & design, site assessments/characterization, report writing, data management & interpretation, project coordination, and managing clients
* Air sparging, soil vapor extraction, multiphase extraction, chemical oxidation, thermal, and bioremediation design, construction, operation and optimization experience a plus
* Federal project experience, including contracting a plus

* Experience in coordinating and simultaneously managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a consulting environment is preferred
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both within a team and independently
* OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required
* Ability and willingness to travel to sites and attend client meetings is required (up to 50% of the time)
