SUMMARY
The Environmental Engineer Intern will help support the Environmental and Sustainability Function and be responsible to take on project assignments or tasks assisting engineers or operations essential to the success of the team. YOUR IMPACT
These duties are not meant to be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
Work on special sustainability and environmental projects and initiatives
Assist the environmental team with;
a. Involvement with various environmental compliance tasks and projects.
b. Providing technical environmental sustainability and compliance services to operations.
c. Providing technical assistance to management, employees, and others on matters regarding compliance, permitting, sustainability, and reporting.
d. Researching, analyzing, and/or preparing information including but not limited to:
e. Permit applications
I. Governmental rules, regulations, codes, and standards
ii. Air emission inventories
iii. Environmental reports and disclosures
Assist in compiling and preparing Environmental Key Performance Metrics such as waste, recycling and energy.
Review SDSs and update as needed in the SDS system and other environmental management systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Student working towards a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or other related environmental field for entire duration of internship
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
GPA of 3.0 or greater
Good oral and written communication skills.
Experience in extracurricular activities outside academic requirements.
Relevant coursework.
Pay Range:
$18.00 - $37.00

CDM Smith's Environmental Services Group is seeking an Engineer, Scientist or Geologist with a.) experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or b.) a working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) in remediation projects combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience (significant academic coursework may suffice) related to remediation projects located anywhere within the United States.
The candidate must have demonstrated expertise working independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team on remediation projects for a variety of clients including those in the Federal and Public sector. Candidates with more extensive experience may be considered for a higher grade level than what is proposed for this advertisement.
Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following regarding sediment remediation projects:
- Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with CapSim is preferred.
- Experience using CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including an ability to follow direction from a senior engineer with minimal continual oversight
- Experience performing slope stability modeling.
- Experience with the development of field sampling programs and subsequent data analyses to support the development of conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes. This would include experience with interpreting results from sediment cores, bathymetric surveys, etc.
- Experience with numerical and/or desktop model development, calibration, and application.
- Experience evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assisting in the development of sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sediment sites involving multiple stakeholders.
- Serve as CDM Smith's primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; this includes having the ability to assess and understand a problem and develop and communicate a technical strategy to the client.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Required Qualifications:
