Join our team as an Environmental Specialist, where you'll support critical environmental programs and play a key role in emergency preparedness and response across local, district, and corporate operations. As an Environmental Specialist, you will provide technical expertise that ensures the safe, compliant, and responsible operation of our facilities. You'll collaborate with cross‑functional teams, lead environmental initiatives, manage remediation projects, and serve as a vital contributor during emergency response efforts within the Incident Command System (ICS).You will collaborate closely with internal teams such as Pipeline Safety, Legal, Operations, Engineering, Project Management, and Finance, as well as external partners including regulators, consultants, landowners, and industry organizations. What You Get to Do: Environmental Compliance Management Oversee air, water, and waste compliance programs within your assigned area. Lead environmental permitting and ensure ongoing compliance monitoring. Manage site assessments, remediation projects, budgets, and contractor oversight. Review consultant deliverables and support longterm project strategies. Conduct facility environmental assessments and track corrective actions. Environmental Program Management Lead response and cleanup efforts for environmental releases. Maintain environmental program documentation within the Environmental Management Information System. Support due diligence and environmental data requests. Deliver environmental compliance training to operations and project teams. Emergency Response Serve in designated ICS roles and mobilize for incident response efforts for 7-10 days when required. Participate in training, drills, and emergency preparedness initiatives. Support Tier I-III Incident Management Teams as needed. What You Bring to the Table: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related natural science field of study from an accredited college or university; may consider a combination of experience and/or education, such as 10 years of environmental experience in lieu of degree, with High School Diploma or GED. Ideally, 7+ years of experience in environmental permitting, assessment, compliance, consulting, or remediation. Experience with North Carolina and Virginia environmental regulations preferred. Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record to drive company and personal vehicles to perform required tasks. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time. Pipeline or oil & gas industry background a plus. Completion of ICS Introductory Training (e.g., ICS 100, 200, 700). OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus but not required. TWIC card, First Aid/CPR certification is a plus but not required. The Division of Soil and Water Conservation (Division) administers a comprehensive statewide program for conserving the state's soil and water resources. This mission is achieved on private working lands through a partnership approach of federal, state, local and private entities. The Division is staffed by 48 employees and is divided into five (5) program areas -Administration, District Operations, Nonpoint Source Section, Engineering Services Section, and the Environmental Services Section. The Division provides funding and technical assistance to grantees completing stream repair projects following natural disasters. The Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP) is funded through a non-recurring state appropriation. The purpose of the program is to fund projects that help reduce flooding, restore streams, and protect the integrity of drainage infrastructure across North Carolina's waterways. StRAP works in conjunction with the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP) and other programs to assist local sponsors with stream repair projects associated with Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters. * Assisting grantees in identification of streams and properties eligible for funding. The position will assist sponsors in site assessments of potential sites. The position will join local sponsors during site visits, which may include travel through streams, woods, and difficult terrain. This position may provide guidance to landowners for the implementation of stream repair projects. * Providing technical assistance to grantees implementing stream repair projects.
