This position will be part of a skilled team that works closely with Project Managers and other technical leads performing ecological and human health risk assessments, environmental compliance, and other environmental project related activities, including development and implementation of field survey plans and assessments. The camp was occupied from 1941-1945 by over 250,000 soldiers, and administrative and management personnel. In 1950, an agreement between the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the State of South Carolina was enacted through a quitclaim deed. This deed provided 7,054 acres± to the state for public use. Officially entering the state parks system by the 1960s, Croft State Park is now heavily used by horseback riders, mountain bikers, hikers, fishers, boaters, and more. The focus of this project is to complete Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) remedial action. MEC detecting equipment will be used to sweep Camp Croft's habitat, identifying subsurface MEC for removal. Additionally, before the deployment of detecting arrays limited vegetative clearance will be required to allow equipment to access natural habitats. Park Technician Advanced These positions perform a combination of general maintenance and repair work of a semi-skilled nature to various building types and equipment, including but not limited to park buildings, electrical, plumbing, power tools and vehicles. Work at this level is more complex in nature than the entry level position and this position may occasionally direct and coordinate the work of other facilities repair workers, inmates, students or Limited Term Employees on projects, but is not considered a leadworker. In addition, this position may perform limited trades work below the journeyman level. 50% - Perform facility improvement projects by repairing windows, doors, screens, and walls. Perform minor repairs to water, electrical and heating systems. Perform carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical and plumbing tasks below the Journeyman level. 20% - Mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches. Haul garbage. Paint buildings, grills and picnic tables. Maintain restrooms, campfire rings and picnic grills. Remove trees and brush. 15% - Operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as tractors, snow removal equipment, dozers, trenchers, sprayers, mowers, etc. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair to mechanical systems (i.e., air handling systems, chillers, air compressors and pumps). 15% - Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop and maintain culverts and shoulders. Salary Information These positions pay between $16.50 - $20.00 per hour and are in pay schedule and range 05-64 (Park Ranger), 02-10 (Visitor Services Associate), 03-10 (Park Technician/ Facilities Repair Worker), and 03-12 (Park Technician Advanced/ Facilities Repair Worker Advanced). Rates offered to selected applicants will depend on the experience of the candidate and the position being offered. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
