Reporting to the Senior Director of Environmental, you will serve as the Sr. Environmental Specialist responsible for optimizing the daily performance of wastewater treatment systems across Conagra's manufacturing network. You will lead initiatives to enhance reliability and efficiency of lagoon treatment, dissolved air flotation (DAF), neutralization, and equalization systems while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. You will provide technical guidance, analyze system data, and support operator training to maintain best-in-class wastewater operations.
**Your Impact**
+ Serve as the subject matter expert on wastewater treatment process design, control, and troubleshooting. Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and EHS teams to evaluate system modifications and upgrades.
+ Lead process monitoring and optimization of lagoon treatment, DAF, equalization, and neutralization systems. Evaluate biological and chemical treatment performance through sampling, laboratory analysis, and data trending. Develop operational playbooks.
+ Travel to various sites to identify and implement process improvements that optimize treatment efficiency, energy use, and chemical consumption.
+ Support daily operation of pumps, aerators, clarifiers, and other treatment infrastructure across the manufacturing network.
+ Ensure continuous compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local wastewater discharge permits and environmental regulations.
+ Set standards for operational logs, sampling records, and performance reports.
+ Support preparation of permit applications, renewals, and regulatory inspections.
+ Develop and deliver training for operators and plant personnel on treatment system operation, safety, and best practices.
**Your Experience**

Assist with developing and maintaining a culture of compliance and continuous improvement within the department. Utilize lean principles and other continuous improvement tools to maximize the efficiency of the department.
Identify, recommend, and/or support process and operational improvements to maintain ongoing compliance.
Coordinate stack testing activities with other departments, escorting stack testing crews if needed, and monitoring stack testing activities.
Timely assessment, investigation, evaluation, and reporting of concerns regarding environmental compliance activities, including identifying deficiencies and follow-up actions to address improvements.
Assist in department budget preparations.
Serve as advisor to the plan-designated Site Coordinator for hazardous waste spill response, oil spill response, highly hazardous chemical spill response, and for non-hazardous spill response may serve as responder as applicable per the site-specific plans. Ability to serve as "Radiation Safety Officer" (RSO) per MPW's nuclear materials license from the Iowa Department of Public Health (at least one person in the Department is required to be the qualified RSO for the Utility).

Qualifications
Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, engineering, or equivalent science-based degree required. An equivalent combination of education and professional experience in regulatory compliance air quality monitoring, water sampling, hazardous waste management under RCRA, solid waste management and Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) landfills, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) materials compliance, and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) compliance,may be considered.
Environmental Specialist I (ES-I) is an entry-level professional position; Environmental Specialist II (ES-II) requires a minimum of 3 years working with environmental regulations, issues, and agencies in an industrial setting. Three (3) years of fossil fuel fired power plant or related experience is preferred.

Understand and follow Quality System documents relevant to responsibilities, e.g., Quality Manual, SOPs, and Methodologies
Adhere to appropriate quality measures to meet or exceed the standards set by ISO/IEC 17025, government regulatory (cGMP, GLP), and company requirements relevant to assigned duties.
Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations relative to assigned analytical work; maintain and assist others in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
Demonstrate proficiency in at least one core method and ability to conduct at least one other assigned method with no more than 25% supervision.

Set up batches of samples to weigh and weigh samples.
Perform timely and accurate analysis of samples to meet customer commitments, including but not limited to, preparing samples for analysis, using appropriate analysis methods and techniques, and applying appropriate data reduction.
Maintain a neat and accurate record system; keep accurate records of work performed on a daily basis and as needed for quality control tests or regulatory purposes; record test data and results for samples in logbook, record book or BookMaster and enter the data or results into eLIMS either manually or through automatic export. in a timely and accurate manner.
Identify from samples assayed the need for rechecks.
Maintain clean glassware and prepare solutions for use in the daily testing of assigned samples.

Using knowledge of various engineering and scientific disciplines, may collect, synthesize, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. Responsibilities
Provide technical and project management services to our existing and future clients on a variety of projects.
Prepare technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, work plans, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
Data compilation, reduction, interpretation, evaluation/comparison to environmental regulatory standards.
Interact with internal and external clients, contractors and service providers.
Depending on your role and experience, conduct or direct environmental sampling and monitoring for various media and contaminants of concern by following established procedures.

Education
Bachelor's degree or master's degree in engineering, geology, or environmental science.
Experience
5-10 years experience including a mix of field, data evaluation and interpretation and technical report writing.
Minimum 2 years experience managing projects.
Professional designation/license (Professional Engineer, Certified Professional Geologist, etc.) a plus.
Experience with solid waste or coal combustion residual (CCR) management a plus.
Experience preparing regulatory work plans and reports for investigation, remediation, and closure.
Working knowledge of methods and procedures for site characterization, hydrogeologic analysis and remediation of contaminants in soil, soil vapor, indoor air, and groundwater.
Working knowledge of the design and operation and maintenance of remediation systems.
OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
