Other soil erosion and sediment control designs or inspection certifications (e.g., CPESC, CESSWI) are also beneficial.
Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills with colleagues, managers, and clients.
Strong technical writing skills.
Strong Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills.
Plant identification experience preferred.
Strong understanding of health and safety protocols.
Ability to travel 25%-50% (primarily local).
The qualified person would perform field activities and prepare the supporting reports associated with the above-listed activities in accordance with the applicable standards and agency regulations. Position Overview
In this role, the Biological Technician/Early Career Scientist will perform a combination of field and laboratory work in support of environmental monitoring and assessment programs. This position involves frequent travel throughout the Midwest and other areas of the United States and provides hands-on experience with biological and water quality sampling under the guidance of senior scientific staff.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include assisting senior staff with:

* Benthic macroinvertebrate sampling
* Water quality, surface water, groundwater, and sediment field sampling programs
* Sample custody, labeling, and chain-of-custody documentation
* Laboratory processing of larval fish and benthic macroinvertebrate samples
* Entry of biological and water quality data into Excel spreadsheets and/or Access databases
* General field and laboratory support as needed for project activities
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in a scientific discipline or environmental science
* Ability to collect, record, and tabulate biological and physicochemical data accurately
* Strong work ethic with demonstrated initiative, reliability, efficiency, and punctuality
* Willingness and ability to travel throughout the U.S. and work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends
* Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Desired Qualifications

Travel Requirements

$47,840-$52,000 USD

As an Project Manager (PM) with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Environmental Practice, you will be directly involved with site assessments and investigations, and remedial action assessments and implementation.
Your primary responsibility will be managing and conducting all aspects of various environmental investigation and remediation projects. The PM role also includes performing field activities as needed, such as the following: sample collection of various environmental media (i.e., groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, and indoor air/vapor), soil classification and logging activities, and oversight of various subcontractor activities, including soil boring advancement and groundwater monitoring well installation, underground storage tank removals, and implementation of remediation technologies.
The PM also assists with conducting ASTM-compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and Phase II ESAs, report preparation, and developing a variety of report figures utilizing GIS and CAD software, including aerial and topographic site maps, potentiometric surface maps, iso-concentration maps, and geologic cross sections. The individual's degree of involvement will be based upon his/her exposure and experience with respect to the assigned work.
Role and responsibilities:
Manage and perform Phase I and Phase II ESAs for real estate transactions and commercial developments;
Collect, analyze, and prepare raw data into workable forms for engineering/scientific project reports, plans, specifications, permits, cost estimates, and other project documents.
Perform field work as necessary/required to accomplish tasks assigned by project team leadership.
Coordinate assigned tasks with other staff and/or subcontractors to successfully complete the assignment.
Maintain and utilize working knowledge of accepted scientific principles, various regulatory programs, and field standards and practices in the execution of assigned work.
Provide input and assistance in investigating new techniques and methods that may increase the Company's efficiency and incorporate cutting-edge applications to arrive at the desired result on projects.
Prepare technical reports, work plans, and regulatory correspondence for environmental projects, including those under Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST), State Remediation Program (SRP), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and other related state/federal programs.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate ideally will have approximately 7+ years of experience in the environmental consulting industry and with site investigation/remediation including technical writing;
B.A. or B.S. Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering or related field;
Knowledge of the Leaking Underground Storage Tank and Site Remediation Programs;
Experience with regulatory compliance and permitting for EPCRA, RCRA, NPDES, and SPCC regulations. Experience preparing and implementing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans.
Competency with using CAD and GIS, Aqtesolv, Surfer software is desired;
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle;
Basic technical competency, and demonstrated skills in engineering/scientific judgment, mathematical-applications, verbal/written communications;

As a key member of the stack team, this role will be responsible for a full range of duties including:
Manage logistics of the project resources by organizing resources with the logistics manager and office managers prior to the field test
Manage the onsite schedule and coordinate with the client plant contacts and regulatory contacts concerning scope changes.
