POSITION DESCRIPTION
Currently, HGL is hiring an experienced Environmental Project Manager at our Maywood, NJ project site. While this is an on-site position in Maywood, NJ, this is also open to remote candidates within the New England area with the ability and willingness to travel to the site two weeks per month.
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
Management of technical planning, budgeting, scheduling, directing resources, risk management, and reporting, for several sites undergoing remediation under the overall project.
Interactions with customer representatives and internal HGL leadership and staff.
Monthly project reporting/invoicing, schedule management and financial management.
Providing leadership and oversight of HGL's on-site staff for the project.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
Minimum 10 years of experience executing and managing remediation projects, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
BA/BS in Engineering, Science, or a related academic field. (MA/MS in a related field may decrease the years of experience required).
Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.

Primary Responsibilities
* Function as an EnvironmentalScientist for natural resources field studies and environmental permitting.
* Perform wetland delineations, ecological and/or biological field surveys and assessments, data interpretation, analysis, and report writing with oversight from senior staff. Report writing would include wetland and watercourse delineation reports, biological assessments, monitoring reports, mitigation plans and related documents.
* Assist in the development of Clean Water Act 404/401 applications, NEPA environmental assessments or impact statements, natural resources and environmental permitting strategies and report preparation.
* Assist in the development of NJDEP Division of Land Resources Protection permit applications (Waterfront Development, CAFRA, Flood Hazard Area, Coastal and Freshwater Wetlands).
* Familiarity with permit development and compliance documentation in NYS including: Joint Permit Applications, NYSDEC Protection of Waters, Coastal Erosion Management, Freshwater/Tidal Wetlands Permits, Industrial SPDES and other environmental and related permits.
* Familiarity with permit applications in NYC including: CEQR, NYC Dept City Planning Waterfront Revitalization Program, NYC Landmark Preservation Commission NYC Parks and Recreation, DEP SWPPP approval process.
* Define the level of environmental analysis needed including assessing and analyzing project impacts to identify permit requirements; and develop strategies to avoid or minimize impacts and permit requirements including constraints mapping.
* Prepare and review technical sections of environmental impact statements (EIS), environmental assessments (EA), natural and cultural resource reports, and other environmental documents.

Position Purpose:

Additional responsibilities include compiling and analyzing field and instrumentation data, preparing technical deliverables (including Phase I and Phase II ESAs), and providing guidance to junior staff. The successful candidate will communicate regularly with clients, agencies, and internal multidisciplinary teams, and ensure project activities conform with company and client health and safety protocols.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
* Split time and responsibilities between field assignments and office assignments.
* Lead portions of technical project work from project scoping through final deliverables under the direction of senior staff.
* Apply academic and industry knowledge, as well as learnings from prior work experience, to execute project work.
* Perform site reconnaissance to observe site conditions and plan/assess subsurface explorations.
* Oversee and monitor subsurface exploration activities (e.g., borings, geoprobes, test pits), collecting soil, bedrock, and groundwater data for design and decision-making
* Conduct soil and groundwater sampling in accordance with ASTM standards, company procedures, and industry guidelines.
* Compile, analyze, and summarize field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data using spreadsheets and other digital tools.
* Prepare detailed documentation of site activities and synthesize findings for both geotechnical and environmental projects.
* Prepare technical deliverables, including technical sections of reports, proposals, cost estimates, and Phase I and II ESAs.
* Provide training, guidance, and informal mentoring to junior staff on their projects and within your technical discipline.
* Participate in communications with clients, agencies, and internal teams within your discipline under direction of senior staff.
* Prepare permit applications.
* Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
* Demonstrate the company's foundational safety behaviors.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
* 5+ years of related experience.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient at writing technical reports to meet project requirements.
* Able to work independently on individual tasks supporting technical work and exhibit the ability to manage tasks and perform work on multiple projects or multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
* Proficiency with GIS.
* Proficiency with MS Office tools and strong data management skills.
* Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
* Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
Preferred Skills:
* Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
* Professional certification or planning to obtain professional certification, as applicable to the discipline.
* Experience with Phase I/II ESAs and regulatory review.
* Experience with developing conceptual site models.
* Design, construction, and O&M experience with environmental or geotechnical remediation projects.
* OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
The salary range for this position in Parsippany, NJ, Cherry Hill, NJ, and Princeton, NJ is $57,000 - $81,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions.
