Role of a Hazardous Waste Technician 1 Under limited supervision, performs waste inspection to ensure hazardous waste compliance. Demonstrates understanding of a wide range of hazardous waste processes and procedures, including emergency situations, hospital loads, testing, categorizing, removal of hazardous material from the waste stream and storing of all hazardous waste, assisting H2W, processing oil, antifreeze, and batteries.
The shift will be Tuesday - Saturday, 10:30AM - 7:00PM.
Essential Responsibilities
* Performs waste inspection to ensure hazardous waste compliance. Demonstrates understanding of a wide range of hazardous waste processes and procedures, including emergency situations, hospital loads, testing, categorizing, removal of hazardous material from the waste stream and storing of all hazardous waste, assisting H2W, processing oil, antifreeze, and batteries.
* Provides reports on the amount of waste-oil, anti-freeze and car batteries that accumulate in the temporary storage bins. Transfers to appropriate storage area daily on an as-needed basis.
* Answers a range of questions from customers, other employees, and Hazardous Materials Technicians about identifying and properly disposing varying types of hazardous waste.
* Starts Emergency Response Team (ERT) standard operating procedure and stays within the confines of all written/applicable safety rules and procedures for each type of incident response.
* Reviews all required paperwork (i.e., load inspection forms, Site Incident log).
* Manages inventory and the contents of the Hazardous Material skids, including pressure cylinders, by transferring to the hazardous waste facility.
* Provides operations support as needed.
* Must be able to wear a full-face respirator and class "C" PPE.
* Driving a Company vehicle will be required from time to time.
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
* Three years related compliance experience, including 40-hour hazardous waste certification, and 8 hours of additional training in the hazardous waste facility.
* Principles and practices of job site safety, potential job hazards, and state and local regulations, including working knowledge of regulation and procedures and/or company services.
* Basic Computer programs.
* High school diploma or GED preferred.
* Valid driver's license.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A STAFF GEOLOGIST/SCIENTIST
As a Staff Geologist/Scientist, you are the backbone of Broadbent. Your hard work ensures that we deliver for our clients. Under the supervision of a Senior Geologist, you provide support on a range of environmental projects including: Emergency Response, Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater characterization, air sampling, remediation system operation and maintenance, lithologic logging and well construction monitoring, water and wastewater treatment facility monitoring, and water resources activities. We are currently hiring for 1-2 highly motivated and enthusiastic researchers with expertise in Engineering or Biology to work in some of the following general areas:
Development of biological particle separation techniques using dielectrophoresis technology - using microelectrode array chips to recover cancer-derived nanoparticles from circulation (Gustafson,
et al.
2021). This novel work will focus on the development and characterization of new nanoparticle recovery techniques using dielectrophoretic forces. These forces are created by microelectrode array devices that act on the unique dielectric properties of different particles (Ibsen
et al.
2017). This work includes increasing particle collection efficiency, understanding the types of particles that are collected and how they can be separated, and developing an internal standard appropriate for different particle types. This position will utilize the high-end specialized dielectrophoresis equipment located here at OHSU. This will also involve quantitative fluorescent microscopy imaging, TEM imaging, immunostaining, and particle characterization.
System automation - continuing development and finalization of an automated system to conduct the dielectrophoresis work. The goal is to automate the dielectrophoresis collection protocol to increase sample analysis throughput. This will involve basic robotics and automation programming in LabView.
Cancer biomarker panel development - evaluate the nanoparticle associated biomarkers that are collected for their ability to detect pancreatic cancer from plasma samples. Here the goal is to use the developed dielectrophoresis techniques to collect cancer-derived nanoparticles and evaluate their biomarkers for the ability to detect pancreatic cancer.

Qualifications
The Environmental Staff Scientist must be organized and able to handle the physical demands of the activities for this job. Strong writing and communication skills are essential to work in a professional, technical, and construction environment. Candidate must be willing to travel up to 90% of the time, have a valid driver's license with clean record, have the ability to drive and fly to sites around the country, work outside in all weather conditions, and pass a pre-placement physical exam as well as routine drug and alcohol monitoring.
Additional qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

The City of Gresham is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead FOG inspections for the city's Industrial Pretreatment FOG Program. The FOG Inspector is responsible for ensuring Food Service Establishments (FSEs) meet pretreatment requirements to protect the wastewater collection system, treatment facility, and environment. The FOG Inspector will be responsible for scheduling and conducting field inspections of Grease Removal Devices (GRDs) to determine if they are being operated and serviced properly. Inspection findings will be entered into Swift Comply software. The Inspector will also access kitchen operations to ensure FOG Best Management Practices (BMP's) are being followed and distribute BMP training materials and review with staff if needed.

What you get to do:
Ensure regulatory compliance by FSEs of FOG program requirements to minimize FOG related blockages of the sanitary sewer system. Coordinate regular Grease Interceptor (GI) and FES Stormwater inspections, public outreach, and enforcement activities. Review grease management practices and enter eview FSE data and enter it in Swift Comply software platform. Monitor FOG program effectiveness and recommend updates to ordinances, policies, and procedures. Review FSE management practices and maintenance records. Collaborate with WW Engineering and WW Ops to identify FOG hotspots and determine strategies to mediate. Assist IPP staff as needed by reviewing IU Self-Monitoring Report (SMR) compliance, data input, and identifying potential violations. Interface with Wastewater Treatment Plant operations staff on permitted IU discharge permits, discharge sampling, and lab reports. Maintain records according to Industrial Pretreatment Program regulations and City procedures; Assist with industrial user inspections and reporting; Assist the Pretreatment Coordinator in implementing and administering IPP procedures.
As time permits, actively participate in Western States FOG Alliance subcommittees and participate in training opportunities. Advocate for the city when discussing policy, procedural, and regulatory changes that will impact Gresham

Work schedule/environment:
The current schedule for this position is working on-site in the field/in the office for a minimum of 5 days per week.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Associate degree in a related field.
* One to four years of experience in FOG program management.
* Ability to walk extended distances with reoccurring bending, crouching, lifting, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; reoccurring lifting of light or moderately heavy items.
* Any combination of qualifying education, training, and work experience equivalent to five (5) to seven (7) years will be considered.

Our Early-Career Environmental Geologist/Engineers work closely with mid- and senior-level project managers to provide critical technical support in the assessment and remediation of potential impacts to people and the environment.
