A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PROJECT GEOLOGIST / PROJECT ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST
As a project-level professional, you are the driving force behind our business. Your hard work ensures that we deliver for our clients. Under the supervision of the Reno Division Manager, you will:
Prepare and review of work plans, technical documents, and reports for federal, state, and local agencies
Prepare and review of new clientele proposals for federal, state, and private industry
Develop the scope of environmental assessment and remediation projects from our diverse portfolio and manage budgets
Conduct regular field visits to drive project execution and ensure that appropriate technical and health and safety procedures are being followed
Review and approve vendor work proposals and invoices
Write project reports, analyze, and interpret data, and prepare final reports to be submitted for Senior and clients review
Your people skills are essential as you interact regularly with clientele and regulatory agencies. Though you do spend a lot of time visiting job sites and interacting with people, you also complete various administrative responsibilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, earth or environmental science related field
Certified Environmental Manager (CEM) or Professional Geologist (PG) certification or willingness and ability to obtain in 6 - 12 months (will pay for study and testing materials)
Three or More years of experience in geological assessments, water supply, water treatment, environmental assessments, contaminant investigation, contaminant remediation, storm water management, wastewater treatment, permitting projects, or compliance projects in the public and private sectors
Consulting experience
Strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and experience interacting with governmental regulatory agencies
Demonstrated ability to properly manage multiple projects concurrently while ensuring compliance with deliverable timelines
Professional Registration/Certification or ability to attain within two years of hire
Ability to travel within the western regional US

What You'll Do

Collect and manage hydrogeologic field data in accordance with defensible data practices, including groundwater levels, flow rate monitoring, water quality sampling, photographs, etc.
Analyze various field data including water flow, groundwater levels, GPS locations, and water quality samples
Report on findings of studies by writing technical reports, memorandums, and emails. Effectively communicate study findings through clear technical writing and incorporate use of data presentations including maps, figures, plots or other methods
Assist with design of groundwater test wells, monitoring wells, potable water supply wells, and well rehabilitation plans
Assist with preparation of bids and technical specifications for water projects including water wells
Assist with preparation of preliminary engineering reports for water supply projects
Assist with preparation of water right applications, extension applications, and mapping practices.
Assist with groundwater modeling using MODFLOW including running existing public groundwater models or developing project specific models to fulfill client objectives.

Duties

* Report on findings of studies by writing technical reports, memorandums, and emails. Effectively communicate study findings through clear technical writing and incorporate use of data presentations including maps, figures, plots or other methods
* Assist with design of groundwater test wells, monitoring wells, potable water supply wells, and well rehabilitation plans
* Assist with preparation of bids and technical specifications for water projects including water wells
* Assist with preparation of preliminary engineering reports for water supply projects
* Assist with preparation of water right applications, extension applications, and mapping practices.
* Assist with groundwater modeling using MODFLOW including running existing public groundwater models or developing project specific models to fulfill client objectives.

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action; OR incumbents serve as the technical scientific expert for a bureau within the Department of Transportation. The incumbent will oversee the development and implementation of the stormwater monitoring component of the NDOT's Stormwater Management Program.
Duties include developing monitoring plans and monitoring sites; performing field monitoring; assessing impacts of stormwater runoff on impaired waters; prioritizing watersheds and projects based on potential impact of the roadway on water quality; identifying appropriate stormwater treatment measures (including Low Impact Development control measures); preparing program documents and technical reports; performing hydrologic and water quality computer modeling; assessing the condition and effectiveness of temporary and permanent Best Management Practices (BMP's) and water quality treatment devices; analyzing data and trends; coordinating Stormwater projects and programs with other divisions, staff, local, State, and federal agencies, and consultants to ensure requirements, project goals, and schedules are met; reviewing reports, plans, and specifications; provide technical assistance on stormwater issues during the construction and maintenance phases of projects; performing field reviews, inspections, and data collection. *THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.
