The incumbent will independently conduct environmental impact studies related to feed and food safety, take regulatory actions, conduct investigations and inspections, and other duties related to the enforcement of California laws governing the distribution of feed and livestock drugs.
* Sample, analyze, and interpret results of feed and livestock drugs for product quality, human and animal food safety, and regulatory compliance, including those containing medically important antimicrobial drugs.
* Evaluate and determine the Feed and Livestock Drugs licensee's compliance with California and United States Food and Drug Administration's laws and regulations and they apply to commercial feed and livestock drugs.
* Review firms Standard Operating Procedures, records, and interview management and staff of manufacturing facilities and document any deviations from federal and state regulations.
* Perform inspections as part of CDFA's contract with the Food and Drug Administration.

Working Conditions
The duties of this position are to perform approximately 75% outdoors and 25% indoors. The primary workstation will be the incumbent's home office, which is equipped with a desk, chair, computer with various software programs, and a multifunction print/scan/copy machine.
The employee's alternate workstation is located indoors at 1320 E Shaw, Suite 130, Fresno CA 93710. When in the office, the duties of this position are performed indoors in a cubicle environment. Each cubicle contains a chair, computer monitor, docking station, printer, a telephone with voicemail, portable and stationary filing drawers, and overhead cabinets.
Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA's Telework Policy.
During activities while in the field, the employee may be exposed to gases, dirt, odors, noise, fumes, uneven surfaces, extreme weather conditions, and fast-moving equipment. Trucks, railcars, ships and other conveyances of feed and fertilizing materials are sampled outdoors during loading at the manufacturing locations, while in transit, or upon delivery at the plant, farm, or livestock operation. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds, which is required when unstacking and re-stacking bags of feed.
Travel by state vehicle within assigned area is required on a routine basis. Travel by car, air, or other public transportation system to attend in-state and out-of-state meetings, follow up with field staff, local, state and federal agencies, and advisory board/subcommittee meetings will occasionally be required. Overnight stays or travel in severe weather may be occasionally required.

Department Information
The Feed, Fertilizer, and Livestock Drugs Regulatory Services Branch (FFLDRS) assures the safety of fertilizer, feed, and food products, safety to persons, and safety to the environment by regulating sales, labeling, and distribution of fertilizing materials, livestock feed, and livestock drug products. The Feed and Livestock Drug Inspection Program (FLDIP) is responsible for enforcement of state law and regulations pertinent to the labeling, manufacturing, and distribution of livestock feed, registration of livestock drugs, and their proper use. FLDIP's Antimicrobial Use and Stewardship (AUS) Program is a joint program with the Department's Animal Health and Food Safety Division. AUS mitigates the overuse of livestock drugs in animals that produce food for human consumption. FLDIP fosters voluntary compliance with laws and regulations that apply to animal feeds to improve the safety of feed through the Safe Animal Feed Education (SAFE) program.
