Environmental Intern - Summer 2026!
State of Wisconsin
Environmental scientist job in Eau Claire, WI
The main purpose of this position is to work with wetland mitigation and aid in environmental office duties. This position works with all phases of this process, identifying existing wetlands, determining wetland losses, the creation/restoration of new wetlands, and the reporting of wetland losses from new sites. Office duties will include tracking various environmental aspects and commitments in a spreadsheet/database.

It requires identifying a great variety of grasses, sedges, plants, shrubs, and trees of both wetland and upland habitats. It requires monitoring ground and surface water levels. It also requires identifying wetland soil characteristics. WisDOT will train the applicant.
Time in the office is spent compiling the information obtained in the field. Information from other sources (like consultants) must also be compiled. Detailed accurate records must be maintained to comply with the mitigation requirements, so some record/file management is required. Time will also be spent tracking various environmental aspects.
