The project is a part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. Bechtel adds current and unmatched experience managing and executing large nuclear projects to the team. # Job Summary: In this role, you will integrate environmental requirements into large-scale project planning documents, permit applications, design criteria, construction plans, schedules, and subcontract documents. You will provide input on bid decisions, identify new approaches, conduct inspections, and participate in emergency response. Your work will help reduce adverse environmental impacts of Bechtel projects. The Environmental Specialist is responsible for integrating environmental requirements into project planning and execution for the Natrium Demonstration Project. This role ensures compliance with federal, state (including Wyoming-specific), and local environmental regulations by embedding requirements into planning documents, permit applications, design criteria, construction plans, schedules, and subcontract documents. You will lead environmental compliance efforts in the field, provide input on bid decisions, conduct inspections, manage permitting processes, and participate in emergency response activities to minimize environmental impacts and maintain regulatory compliance. \#LI-EH1 # Major Responsibilities: + Assists execution of the environmental component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects. + Assists in development and implementation of Environmental Management Plans, associated environmental plans and procedures, and training program. + Maintain alignment with the permit compliance matrix and project-specific mitigation plans (e.g., wetlands, cultural resources). + Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups to assure that environmental requirements are integrated within project planning and execution. Interprets environmental requirements and provides comprehensive assistance on plan preparation, risk assessment, and program execution. + Researches complex issues and regulatory requirements, performs studies and environmental assessments, and prepares documentation and reports. + Act as primary field interface with regulatory agencies and customers for permitting, risk assessments, audits, and reviews involving site conditions, natural resources, cultural resources and communities. + Prepare and supports technical reports, documentation, and regulatory submissions. + Participates in emergency response and incident investigation and resolution. + Participates or leads in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders. + Conducts inspections and environmental monitoring and sampling to identify risks, evaluate mitigation measures and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Provides guidance regarding environmental mitigation, permitting, sustainability concepts, and protection of environmentally sensitive areas, species, and communities. + Responsible for drafting and updating project specific mitigation plans (e.g., wetlands mitigation, cultural resources protection plan), and technical reports. + Participates and manages in project Waste Management compliance requirements such as RCRA inspections, documentation, and waste stream determinations, etc. # Education and Experience Requirements: + Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience # Required Knowledge and Skills: + Specialized knowledge in a field of science (e.g., meteorology, ecology, biology, forestry, wetlands, archeology), engineering (e.g., civil, environmental, mechanical) or related disciplines. + Knowledge of environmental management, monitoring and mitigation systems, principles, and methodologies. + Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and resource agencies' permitting processes and responsibilities. + Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes. + Some experience in environmental monitoring and/or compliance inspection during construction. + Skilled in oral and written communication and knowledge of computer applications. + Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident of the US + Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, which includes verification of employment and education. + Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site. + Prior experience in Nuclear construction. # Total Rewards/Benefits: For decades, Bechtel has worked to inspire the next generation of employees and beyond! The Environmental Engineer I will be responsible for the environmental department's major activities including planning, evaluation and implementation of reclamation activities. The Environmental Engineer I will also be responsible for permitting/reporting and compliance requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Able to meet the physical demands of the position according to the Physical Demands Analysis Supervise, coordinate and implement programs necessary for compliance with permits and regulations Responsible for reclamation success and bond release evaluation and implementation Supervise, implement, report and permit programs in the area(s) of technical expertise as assigned (groundwater, climate, geology, soils, wildlife, reclamation, air quality, hazardous materials, etc.) Research and development of new programs and techniques as they may apply to compliance, reclamation, planning, evaluation and bond release Represent the company in inter-company and regulatory issues and issues involving permitting (i.e. GAGMO, WMA subcommittee).
