Education
Required - None (Ability to read, write and speak/understand verbal communication in English in order to follow instructions and perform daily tasks
Preferred- High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience
Required - Experience in operating environmental services equipment (including dust mop, wet mop, bucket and wringer, spray bottles, and dustpan)
Preferred- 1 year relevant experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to read, write and speak / understand verbal communication in English in order to follow instructions and perform daily tasks. Basic knowledge of housekeeping, cleaning and cleaning equipment/supplies. Ability to work flexible schedule when needed. Ability to listen and take direction and complete job tasks with minimal supervision.

Job Duties
Maintains assigned area in a clean and aseptic manner. Maintains Environmental closet and equipment in a clean, aseptic and orderly manner. Assists with restock of cafe and bar (where necessary). Assists with special cleaning projects and room turnover. Follows all current Joint Commission / CMS regulations pertaining to Environment of Care and Cleaning requirements.

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.

Department Profile

The Environmental Services (EVS) department is an integral part of TGH and maintains cleanliness for 1.7 million square feet of both direct and indirect patient care. As a member of the Environmental Services Team for the largest Level 1 Trauma Center in the area, team members are a part of the frontline care team helping to heal some of the sickest patients. With over 1,000 licensed beds, TGH EVS Aides complete more than 200,000 room cleans each year. Extensive training is provided to ensure team members can effectively and confidently follow standard procedures in the safe clean-up and disposal of infectious waste while safely using cleaning chemicals in accordance with CDC, the Joint Commission and OSHA standards.

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Environmental Service Supervisor, the aide is responsible for dust mopping , high/low dusting, discharge room cleaning including the bed and fixtures, disinfecting of the bathroom and fixtures, replenishing paper supplies and products, trash removal of both non-infectious and infectious waste, vacuuming, wall washing, cleaning of identified medical devices and instruments. Scrubbing, buffing of hard surface flooring, carpet bonnet cleaning and extraction cleaning. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General hospital.
Qualifications
3 to 6 months of experience in environmental service in a hospital and/or hotel setting.
Ability to follow basic oral and written instructions in English (For the safety of our patients and staff in an emergency situation).
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls the activities of the Environmental Services Department. This position performs cleaning duties in the hospital in order to keep it in a clean and orderly condition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




Cleans patient rooms, restrooms, lounges, offices, corridors, walls and windows daily or as scheduled.
Vacuums, sweeps, mops floors; replaces paper and soap products in restrooms, cleans mirrors, sinks and toilets, etc.
Operates various types of equipment and machinery to include vacuums, hand trucks, and mini-extractors.
Collects and remove trash from buildings each day.
Inspects and evaluates physical condition of the hospital.
Submits recommendations to management for painting, repairs, and furnishings, relocation of equipment and reallocation of space.
Periodically inventories equipment and supplies.
Investigates new and improved cleaning equipment, methods and supplies and communicates information to employees.
Properly trains and guides EVS personnel within established policy.
Assigns daily tasks to EVS personnel to ensure proper coverage of the hospital.
Participates in information management, performance improvement and infection control programs.
Ensures compliance with JCAHO, federal, state and local regulations and standards.
Reports any malfunctions and maintenance problems.
Other duties as assigned.




Qualifications




High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in acute care setting preferred.
Previous cleaning or housekeeping experience required.
Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and other hospital staff.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
