Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Professional and Scientific Positions.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.
FOR GS-11: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: serving as an advanced analyst in the field of analytical chemistry for analysis of water samples (primarily stream water, soil leachate, and precipitation); using equipment and instruments including atomic absorption spectrophotometers, ion chromatographs, automatic titrators, ammonia analyzers, carbon analyzers, and nitrogen analyzers; performing preparations, quality control, calibrations, calculations, waste and sample disposal related to the analysis; training other technicians in the performance of routine duties; and generating reports based on analytical data produced.
FOR GS-12: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience may include planning and executing complex physical science studies, which usually involved intensive investigations into recognized phenomena. This work typically involved conventional methods and techniques though it required going beyond clear precedents, and required adapting methods to the problems at hand and interpreting findings in terms of their scientific significance. At this level, physical scientists have the ability to independently perform scientific work of considerable difficulty.
FOR GS-13: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the position to be filled. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
* Knowledge of professional environmental physical scientific principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively participate in project development, execution, training, and assistance in assigned projects (see Environmental Program Checklist).
* Knowledge to troubleshoot routine environmental physical science problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned projects (see Environmental Program Checklist).

Position Overview: The Senior Forester plays a key leadership role within the Forest Operations team, overseeing timber procurement, log quality, contract compliance, and field forestry activities to support mill fiber needs. This position ensures a consistent, high-quality, and cost-effective supply of logs while maintaining strong relationships with logging contractors, State and Federal agencies, and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Timber Procurement & Supply Chain Management
Lead procurement activities to ensure a reliable, high-quality, and cost-effective supply of logs to support mill production.
Appraisal and bidding on IRTC, IRSC, GNA, Timber Sale, and related agreements with the USFS, state, and local agencies.
Identify, negotiate, and manage Gatewood and other delivered log contracts.
Maintain strong relationships with RFOR logging contractors, the local logging community, local, state, and federal agencies.
Oversee harvest scheduling and contractor coordination to meet production targets.
Monitor market conditions, timber pricing, and supply trends to support strategic planning and budgeting.
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and support the Forestry Team, including Compliance and Log Quality, ensuring effective performance, development, and alignment with department goals.
Provide technical guidance on forestry practices, compliance expectations, and log quality standards.
Conduct team meetings, field training, and coaching to ensure consistency, safety, and efficiency.
Log Quality & Scaling Oversight
Ensure proper measurement, classification, and quality assessment of logs entering the facility.
Enforce log quality standards and maintain accurate log accounting.
Collaborate with mill operations to understand fiber requirements and resolve log quality issues.
Review quality trends and implement corrective actions where needed.
Compliance & Environmental Stewardship
Oversee Compliance Forester's work to ensure all harvesting operations meet regulatory, contractual, log quality, and environmental standards.
Ensure adherence to BMPs, state and federal forestry regulations, and sustainability commitments.
Audit field operations and contractor compliance; support certification programs as applicable.
Planning, Reporting & Coordination
Prepare and manage operating budgets related to procurement, contracting, and field operations.
Track procurement volumes, delivered log costs, scaling data, and contractor performance.
Contribute to long-term supply planning and outreach strategies.
Collaborate closely with mill leadership, transportation/logistics, and sales teams to maintain operational alignment.
Safety
Demonstrate, Promote and Enforce safety practices.
Conduct onsite safety visits with contractors and support training as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience). Master's degree in Forestry is preferred.
10+ years of forestry and/or timber procurement experience (procurement of USFS timber preferred); 3+ years of leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of timber harvesting operations, silviculture, log scaling, and USFS regulations.
Experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships.
Ability to interpret and enforce USFS and other Agency contracts, environmental regulations, and BMPs.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Strong analytical, planning, and organizational abilities.
Proficiency with forestry software, GIS tools, Microsoft Office, and data management systems.
Valid driver's license; willingness to travel regularly to field sites.
Work Environment
Office responsibilities mixed with some Field-based work in variable terrain and weather conditions.
Regular visits to logging operations, log yard, sawmill. PPE required as applicable.

Complete log entries, recording times, weights, activities, and staff details.
Responsible for maintaining clean work area by sweeping and power washing trailer interior and surrounding bay(s) as needed.
Place plastic liners inside empty trailers prior to loading of waste.
Transport delivered liners to storage area.
Follow all health and safety and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management.

Minimum requirements:

Preference will be given to candidates with vocational training in electrical or construction, former drillers, those individuals working towards or have obtained an associate s degree in Environmental and/or Water Resources Technology, or a high school diploma with at least one year of applicable experience in a similar role with an environmental or engineering consulting firm.
Position includes the performance of soil, vapor, and groundwater sampling; stormwater compliance sampling; willingness to be cross trained for mold and indoor air quality investigations for private and public sector clients.
Technical requirements:
Preferred candidate will be 40-hour HAZWOPER trained.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Monitoring (EM) Specialist to perform routine environmental sampling and support contamination control within our sterile pharmaceutical compounding cleanroom facilities. This role is essential in ensuring a controlled environment for aseptic operations and maintaining compliance with USP , USP , and 503A/503B regulatory standards.
Working under the supervision of the Microbiologist, the EM Specialist will be responsible for executing all aspects of the environmental monitoring program, including sample collection, incubation, documentation, reporting, and assisting in microbial investigations and laboratory submissions.
You Will:
* Perform routine non-viable and viable air sampling, surface sampling, and personnel monitoring sampling within ISO-classified cleanroom environments.
* Ensure proper handling and labeling of sampling media to maintain integrity throughout the sampling and incubation process.
* Accurately document sampling events, locations, results, and observations in compliance with internal SOPs and regulatory expectations.
* Adhere to defined sampling schedules and respond to unscheduled or investigative sampling needs.
* Manage the proper incubation of solid and liquid microbiological media at appropriate temperature conditions (e.g., 20-25°C and 30-35°C).
* Perform interim and final readings of incubated media plates to identify and enumerate Colony Forming Units (CFUs).
* Report and investigate results at alert and/or action levels.
* Support the Microbiologist in responding to microbial growth events, including sample handling, documentation of excursions, and generation of preliminary reports.
* Coordinate submission of microbial-positive samples to third-party laboratories and assist in investigation data gathering.
* Maintain investigation logs and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
You Have:
* Minimum 1 year of experience in one or more of the following:
* Non-viable particulate air sampling
* Viable air sampling using impaction or settling plates
* Surface sampling using contact plates or swabs
* Personnel aseptic technique and gown sampling
* Knowledge in gram staining and microbial growth identification.
* Ability to work in sterile garb for extended periods within an ISO Class 5 or cleaner environment.

About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Monitoring (EM) Specialist to perform routine environmental sampling and support contamination control within our sterile pharmaceutical compounding cleanroom facilities. This role is essential in ensuring a controlled environment for aseptic operations and maintaining compliance with USP , USP , and 503A/503B regulatory standards.
Working under the supervision of the Microbiologist, the EM Specialist will be responsible for executing all aspects of the environmental monitoring program, including sample collection, incubation, documentation, reporting, and assisting in microbial investigations and laboratory submissions.
You Will:
Perform routine non-viable and viable air sampling, surface sampling, and personnel monitoring sampling within ISO-classified cleanroom environments.
Ensure proper handling and labeling of sampling media to maintain integrity throughout the sampling and incubation process.
Accurately document sampling events, locations, results, and observations in compliance with internal SOPs and regulatory expectations.
Adhere to defined sampling schedules and respond to unscheduled or investigative sampling needs.
Manage the proper incubation of solid and liquid microbiological media at appropriate temperature conditions (e.g., 20-25°C and 30-35°C).
Perform interim and final readings of incubated media plates to identify and enumerate Colony Forming Units (CFUs).
Report and investigate results at alert and/or action levels.
Support the Microbiologist in responding to microbial growth events, including sample handling, documentation of excursions, and generation of preliminary reports.
Coordinate submission of microbial-positive samples to third-party laboratories and assist in investigation data gathering.
Maintain investigation logs and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
You Have:
Minimum 1 year of experience in one or more of the following:
Non-viable particulate air sampling
Viable air sampling using impaction or settling plates
Surface sampling using contact plates or swabs
Personnel aseptic technique and gown sampling
Knowledge in gram staining and microbial growth identification.
Ability to work in sterile garb for extended periods within an ISO Class 5 or cleaner environment.
Successful completion or ability to pass initial and ongoing garbing and aseptic competency evaluations.
Working knowledge of USP , USP , USP , and sterile compounding requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed Pharmacy Technician with active state licensure and PTCB certification.
Prior experience in a 503A or 503B compounding pharmacy or aseptic pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with microbial growth morphology and plate reading.
Understanding of incubation practices, environmental excursion documentation, and laboratory sample chain-of-custody procedures.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to aseptic technique and contamination control.
