RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical assistance on site investigation and remediation projects
Conduct field work, including:
Utility clearance
Soil and bedrock drilling, characterization, and sampling;

Surface and borehole geophysical techniques;

A DAY IN THE LIFE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Provides technical assistance on all project types while working under the general supervision of more senior personnel
Collects, evaluates, compiles, and analyzes project-specific data
Prepares sections of reports and is responsible for ensuring accuracy and quality of work products
Reviews work products of others for consistency with Standards Operating Procedures, guidance, and regulations
Functions as a field supervisor, coordinating all field tasks and the efforts of junior-level employees and subcontractors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in a field of scientific study, such as engineering, physical/chemical/biological science, environmental science/engineering, geology/hydrogeology, or similar
Familiarity with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
Minimum of 5 years of job-specific experience managing and executing environmental tasks for environmental investigations under CERCLA, RCRA, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and or Underground Storage Tank (UST) programs
Good working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
Valid driver's license
Capable of accessing government properties based upon a background check

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Periodic fieldwork travel is required and expected about 20-30% of the year; overnight travel is required. Travel is anticipated to consist primarily of field work at project sites, but may include client visits, conferences, and work at partner offices across the United States. The position will involve outdoor fieldwork at sites across the United States. Fieldwork may require candidate to walk over uneven terrain up to 8 hours a day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be at site locations, sit, stand, walk, use both hands, and reach and raise items above the head, use fingers to feel and handle, talk, and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight and carry heavy equipment. 3. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes:
* Strong technical knowledge of lighting principles and technologies including outdoor lighting, shielding, controls, and LEDs.
* Ability to interpret and explain technical lighting specifications such as photometric design plans, lighting specifications (lumen output, efficacy, CCT), wired controls and wireless control options such as timers, dimmers, or sensors to non-specialists.
* Familiarity with lighting standards for outdoor lighting including zoning and appropriate lighting levels for given tasks.
* Familiarity with night sky protection initiatives such as Dark Sky International Best Practices and Certification processes, Illuminating Engineering Society best practices, or Design Lights Consortium Project LUNA requirements.
* Demonstrated understanding of the environmental impacts of outdoor lighting such as skyglow on wildlife and ecosystem health and the implementation of best practices for mitigating outdoor lighting effects, and experience guiding lighting choices based on these potential impacts.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree, if related. You must include transcripts.

COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take your the amount of completed education (18 semester hours, or 27 quarter hours, equal 1 year of graduate education) and divide by 18 (if semester hours) or 27 (if quarter hours). Then multiply the answer by 100 to calculate the total percentage of education. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months, multiplying that answer by 100 for the percentage. Add the percentages together. What you will do:
Support air, water, and waste compliance processes including inspections and identification of environmental hazards
Record keeping and filing organization to support compliance documentation in alignment with internal policies
Contribute to data collection, analysis, and validation for internal and external reporting processes
Assist in development of standard operating procedures to support the plant environmental management processes
Coordinate an effort to automate environmental field data collection
What you will bring:
Must be currently enrolled and have completed at least 1 year of an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science/Engineering or equivalent related program at an accredited post-secondary institution AND returning to full-time studies after the work term.
