    Office: Facilities Management Team: Environmental Division - Sustainability and Environmental Resources Team Reports to: Assistant Director of Planning, Engineering, Sustainability, and Environment Boston Public Schools seeks an experienced environment, health and safety professional to assist with the implementation and maintenance of the BPS Environment, Health and Safety program, and advise BPS on EH&S policies, regulations, and best practices. The Environmental Technician position resides in the Facilities Management Department within the Operations Division of Boston Public Schools, and is part of the BPS Environmental Division reporting to the Sustainability and Environmental Resources Manager. The BPS Environmental Division is responsible for monitoring the environmental quality of BPS buildings and properties, with an emphasis on improving air quality within classrooms, utilizing simple integrated pest management (IPM) techniques, managing asbestos and hazardous waste, testing all water sources used for drinking and food preparation, managing and updating fuel tank storage systems for environmental compliance, and oversight of environmental site remediation projects. The Environmental Technician will serve in a Junior role within Facilities Management. Responsibilities: * Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the Boston Public Schools Environmental Health and Safety program. * Shall conduct Environment, Health and Safety field work in BPS schools and administrative buildings, as directed by the Chief Environmental Technician and guided by the Senior Environmental Technicians. * Within 12 months of hiring, shall obtain the Massachusetts Asbestos Inspector, Massachusetts Asbestos Management Planner, Massachusetts Asbestos Project Monitor, and Massachusetts Asbestos Designer Licenses, and be 40 hr OSHA Hazwoper and OSHA 10 hr General Safety trained. * Shall conduct asbestos inspections surveys and inspections in accordance with AHERA and NESHAPS and assess conditions and recommend and schedule response actions. * Shall assist in the maintenance of the BPS Drinking Water Quality Access Program and advise the Facilities Management on policies and best practices. * Shall investigate and assess health and safety related complaints and potential hazards and recommend and schedule necessary corrective actions.
