**Job Description**
As an Environmental Field Technician, you will play a critical role in responding to environmental emergencies and performing technical field and office work. You will operate various mechanical equipment, conduct clean-up and decontamination procedures, and maintain inventory lists. Your role also involves completing reports, understanding spill response terminology, and managing hazardous materials safely.
**Job Overview:**
+ Perform government contract work, including environmental spill and hazard clean-up.
+ Operate various trucks and equipment including Vac Trucks, Super Duster, forklifts, and trailers.
+ Respond to environmental emergencies within a 24-hour period.
+ Conduct clean-up and decontamination procedures.
+ Maintain inventory lists and complete various reports and Field Dailies.
+ Understand and apply spill response principles.
+ Store, treat, and dispose of hazardous materials correctly.
+ Perform limited chemical tests and work with various chemicals.
+ Prepare equipment and maintain accurate field log books.
+ Engage in manual labor tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, pushing, and pulling.
+ Communicate effectively with Field Supervisors and other team members.
**Qualifications:**
+ Experience operating specialty trucks and equipment: Vacuum trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, and heavy equipment.
+ **CDL Class A (active)** is required and must have a **minimum of 2 years**
+ Knowledge of spill response terminology and principles is a plus.
+ **Hazmat and Tanker Endorsement** is required.
+ Ability to travel 25% of the year (within the state of FL) for special projects.
+ Understanding of hazardous material storage, treatment, and disposal.
+ Competent in equipment preparation and maintaining field logs.
+ Effective communication and teamwork skills.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ High school graduate or GED equivalent.
+ Preferably 2 years of experience in environmental, construction, or heavy industrial environments.
+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
+ Adherence to safety procedures.

**Work Environment and Shift**
This is a fully on-site position in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, requiring work outside in very hot temperatures and confined spaces. You will work around hazardous chemicals and heavy industrial equipment, often at elevated heights and in noisy conditions. Technicians typically work an average of 55 hours per week, with shifts ranging from 40 to 80 hours based on project needs. As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around soil and groundwater remediation, brownfield redevelopment, site development, and sustainability projects. You will typically work 40 hours per week. Interns will receive hands-on learning in the field 75-80% of the time in the South Florida area.

Qualifications
Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree civil, environmental or geological engineering, geology or environmental science and graduating by June 2028 required. Candidates going into senior year are preferred.
Must be willing to live in the Miami area for Summer 2026 (housing will not be provided).
Solid computer skills and a willingness to learn new tools and develop technical skills through hands-on project experience.
Previous leadership experience required.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Great attention to detail and solid judgment.
Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
Ability to travel overnight for work outside of the SCS office required.

Scope of Work and Duties Specific to EnvironmentalTechnician
1) Work as part of a monitoring crew in the field and work directly with the current Field Team Lead, Program Environmental Specialist, and Program Project Manager to meet compliance requirements.
2) Support groundwater and surface water field monitoring in accordance with county, state, and federal guidelines
a) Collect water quality samples from groundwater wells and surface water stations
3) Support in-field activities and maintenance duties for compliance with the environmental monitoring program including:
a) Manual data downloads from automated probes
b) Troubleshooting of sampling and automated equipment
c) Coordination with laboratory personnel, couriers, and environmental contractors
d) Packing and shipping samples following regulatory guidelines and quality assurance standards
e) Detailed record keeping and data management of collected data (field sample sheets, logbooks, COCs, lab reports)
f) Reconnaissance of problem areas, escort vendors to check equipment as needed
4) Assist with basic laboratory equipment calibrations, Support record keeping, and maintenance activities of on-site equipment including:
a) Water quality hand-held and deployed multi-meter probes and sensors
b) Peristaltic pumps, flowmeters, viscometers, and other sampling equipment
5) Occasionally operate and maintain off-road vehicles and various other aquatic vessels (kayaks, airboats, canoes, and small boats)
6) Assist with data mining, retrieval, and minor database management related to various projects
7) Support record keeping and generation of order requests for any materials related to field and lab needs
8) Support Office Manager as needed

Skillset Required:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Connect and disconnect electrical, pneumatic, and network cabling to facilitate printer mobility.
Independently resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues, leveraging advanced troubleshooting skills.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and monitoring of printer performance to reduce downtime.
Regularly analyze printer data to foresee potential issues and proactively address them.
Lead the coordination of complex tasks while ensuring team safety, operational efficiency, and compliance.
Document troubleshooting steps, repairs, replacements, and shift handoffs in ICON's ticketing system.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
4+ years as a Field Engineering Technician I or equivalent experience in a technical, hands-on role.
Ability to read wiring diagrams and terminate cables (e.g., camlock power, EtherCAT).
Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
Advanced knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, cabling, and related printer systems (preferred).

What we are looking for SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2026 intern for our Coconut Creek, FL office. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path.
As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around landfill construction, landfill permitting, storm water management, utility projects, soil and groundwater remediation, brownfield redevelopment, site development, and sustainability projects. You will typically work 40 hours per week, dependent upon office workload.
How you can make an impact
You will contribute to our projects by assisting SCS project teams with the following tasks:
* Construction observation and documentation
* Environmental and construction materials sample collection
* Laboratory data management and review
* Compliance reporting
* Surveying
* Reporting and calculation preparation
* CAD drafting
Qualifications
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in civil, environmental, geological, or biological systems engineering and graduating y June 2028 required.
