Primary Purpose of the Organization: The Division of Facilities Management functions are to design, construct, maintain and operate the physical facilities of the University. Join our team as a Naturalist and inspire guests through hands-on nature education and unforgettable wildlife experiences! Naturalists play a key role in delivering engaging environmental programs, caring for our animal ambassadors, and sharing the incredible ecology of our barrier island. Under the guidance of the Head Naturalist, you'll provide exceptional guest service, lead dynamic outdoor adventures, and help ensure every visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation for the natural world. This is a full-time, seasonal position that includes weekends and holidays. Duties and Responsibilities Animal Husbandry & Exhibit Care Provide daily, weekly, and monthly care to our animal ambassadors under the supervision of the Head Naturalist. Maintain animal enclosures, ensuring clean, safe, and enriching habitats. Monitor temperature, humidity, and environmental conditions. Feed and safely handle snakes, turtles, and alligators as part of daily care routines. Conduct water quality testing, water changes, and necessary maintenance. Guest Programs & Interpretive Experiences Lead engaging nature programs and guided experiences, such as Kayaking Tours, Birding, Gatorology, Beach Walks, and more. Teach guests about local wildlife and barrier island ecology (training provided-no prior ecology experience required). Deliver memorable guest interactions with professionalism, enthusiasm, and curiosity. Collaborate closely with Recreation staff and interns at the Nature Center. Assist with school groups, special events, Camp Fripp programming, and select recreation activities. Guest Services & Operational Support Provide excellent customer service, including answering calls, taking reservations, and processing sales transactions. Communicate courteously and professionally with guests, staff, vendors, and property owners. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Listen actively and respond with empathy to guest questions or concerns. Follow all resort policies regarding safety, operations, and customer service standards. Identify opportunities for improved efficiency and guest experience. Perform additional duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology, Fisheries, Conservation, Zoology, Environmental Education, or related field preferred. Prior customer service experience desired. Experience handling reptiles is a plus. CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with a collaborative, upbeat attitude. Professional demeanor with a sense of humor and enthusiasm for learning. Comfortable using Microsoft Office and general digital tools. Ability to work a flexible 40-hour schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively. Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, personal smartphone, and ability to pass a background check and drug screening required. Physical Requirements Ability to work in tight spaces; sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. Perform grasping, fine manipulation, repetitive motions, overhead reaching, pushing, pulling, squatting, crawling, and kneeling. Navigate stairs, uneven ground, and various outdoor environments. Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, including rain, heat, humidity, and wind.
