POSITION DESCRIPTION HGL is currently seeking a Scientist IV to act as Community Involvement Coordinator and Access Manager and support remediation and construction projects in the western United States and U.S. territories. As part of HGL's high-performing team, you will support stakeholder outreach, property access coordination, and field activities on complex environmental projects for federal, state, and local clients, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Responsibilities/Duties WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Community Outreach - Lead community involvement activities including: Developing and updating Community Involvement Plans (CIPs), Maintaining Site mailing lists, Community correspondence, Organizing and conducting in-person and virtual community meetings, Preparing informational materials including: Fact sheets, Public notices, Newspaper publications, Agendas, notes, presentations, Other as needed, and Maintaining copies of site documents and records at the public information repository. Access Management - Lead project property access management including: Obtaining access from residents, Maintaining clear sampling schedules, Coordinating staff for door-to-door outreach and phone calls, and Organizing and maintaining a property access database. Project Execution - Assisting the project manager and supporting the field team with the completion of project efforts including: Routine management activities; Sample collection; Meeting coordination, direction, and documentation; and Development and editing of technical memorandums, planning documents, and reports. Required Skills WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL Education BA/BS in Communications, Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Science, or a related academic field. MA/MS in a related field may decrease the years of experience expected. Experience Minimum of 6+ years of directly related experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical and regulatory information clearly and empathetically to diverse audiences. Experience developing and implementing Community Involvement Plans (CIPs), fact sheets, flyers, public notices, and other outreach material. Skilled at facilitating public meetings (in-person and virtual). Comfortable engaging with residents, community organizations, local officials, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of access agreements and understanding of basic landowner liability and privacy concerns. Knowledge and experience of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), and EPA. Ability to maintain clear documentation. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams). Ability to lift 30 pounds. Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Preferred Skills WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required HAZWOPER 40 hour and 8 hour HAZWOPER training. Experience with Section 508 compliance or plain language writing for federal documents. Strong local presence in the Billings and/or Helena, Montana area. Charge the appropriate Member account for services rendered and rental equipment. Interface with other departments in order to meet Member, guest, and prospective Member requests. Answer Member, guest, prospect, and interdepartmental inquiries by telephone, facsimile, email and mail. Keep detailed records of Member preferences and requests. Ensure proper selection, fitting and selling of a variety of winter and summer sports equipment and accessories. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Provide a positive atmosphere in the rental shop for Members, guests, and employees. Understand and communicate the rental equipment packages and features to ensure the best match, ensuring all equipment is returned efficiently and properly in the rental system. Repair rental equipment. Provide consistent exceptional customer service. Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established Club policies, procedures, and standards of service to achieve the overall objectives of this position. Meet departmental productivity, organization, punctuality/attendance and consistency standards. Maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Math Ability Able to perform basic math calculations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve basic problems and/or know when it is necessary to get a manager to assist in problem solving.
