The Loma Linda University Eye Institute (**************** invites applications from qualified optometrists to practice in our ophthalmology department. The Loma Linda Eye Institute has excellent clinical facilities and a large, diverse patient population. It is a high volume and fast paced practice. Associated with Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children's Hospital, LLUEI is also a teaching facility with ophthalmology residents and fellows.
The responsibilities of the optometrist include:
5 full days weekly (Monday through Friday):
Perform detailed medical histories and comprehensive, dilated, undilated and postoperative eye exams. for all patients
Request and review records from previous evaluations to include OCT images and reports, serologic testing, and previous eye exams
Perform refractions and prescribe corrective lenses and medications as necessary
Assist with intravenous access for injections of fluorescein for angiography purposes under the supervision of an ophthalmologist.
Facilitate completion of documentation including results of sensorimotor exam, external and fundus photography, Humphrey Visual Field, and Ocular Coherence Tomography
Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan
Consult with and refer patients to other health care practitioners as necessary
Participate in department research initiatives and/or conduct provider initiated research projects
Assist in teaching and lecturing responsibilities for our ophthalmology residency program and future optometric residency program
The ideal candidate will have residency training in ocular disease or primary care or at least two years' experience in treating related disorders. At the time of application candidates must have an OD degree from an ACOE accredited institution and be licensed in the State of California with therapeutic drug prescribing certification (TPA) glaucoma certification (TLG). Residency training and Clinical teaching experience are highly preferred but not required. Low vision training and experience also highly preferred. The level of appointment will be determined by the experience of the applicant. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Compensation & Benefits
Expected Total Annual Compensation: $130,000 - $175,000
The compensation range listed above includes variable compensation and is based on a 1.0 FTE work schedule/effort, as outlined in the individual department compensation plan. The compensation range for starting base compensation only, which is adjusted in accordance with years of experience and/or faculty rank, is expected to be $100,000 - $140,000. * Consults and treats referrals from other specialties such as Neurology and Rheumatology.
* Participate in hospital calls with 2 other ophthalmologists
* Perform examinations to determine the overall health of the patients' eyes looking for issues like glaucoma, cataracts, or other ocular conditions that impaired vision.
* Make a diagnosis and determine a treatment plan with the goal of correcting the issue.
* If a patient's diagnosis requires surgery, perform the necessary surgical procedure.
* Participates in Hospital calls.
* Perform surgical procedures, i.e., Cataract Surgery and other procedures related to injuries and disease of the eye and visual system.
* Perform a variety of laser procedures i.e., YAG and SLT
* Diagnose and treat medical disorders affecting vision, such as inflammatory, neurological and vascular conditions
* Diagnose or treat injuries, disorders, or diseases of the eye and eye structures including the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, retinal, or eyelids.
