With a focus on flu and COVID vaccines, this position will help to normalize for all Cooperative Extension audiences across the western region of the US that while we are out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the virus is here to stay, and we can take appropriate steps on an annual basis to protect the health of our families and ourselves. With the goal of helping to routinize flu and COVID vaccines among the general adult population on an annual basis, this position will focus on lower income, rural, and/or otherwise medically underserved populations, with attention to bringing culturally relevant educational content in the primary languages of diverse community groups across the region. Central to this role is developing community-centered, up-to-date, science-based vaccine educational materials, disseminating the materials to coincide with seasonal campaigns, and engaging local and statewide partnerships to inform and advance the success of these efforts.
This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed and ends three years from date of hire with the possibility of extension if funding permits.
The home department is Community Nutrition and Health. While this position normally is based in Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements for applicants living in the State of California at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.
Pay Scale: $22.66/hour to $30.12/hour

Providing immunization education in the geographic area designated by the region.
Delivering lessons using adult engagement techniques, extend education to community partners and/or program participants.

Requirements:
Associate Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of community education, community engagement, teaching and/or facilitation best practices.
Proficient in use of Windows-based computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience working with a diverse youth, adult and/or volunteers, including diversity in age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or physical and ability/disability).
Experience working with underserved populations.
Thorough and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills to work in large and small groups, give presentations and organize activities. Ability to write newsletters, correspondence, and reports.
Preferred Skills:

Position Summary:
This position is part of the Urban and Community IPM unit. Coordinates workshops or educational programs related to urban pest management. Distributes outreach materials, tools, and collections to end-users for their educational programs. Maintains schedule and inventory of materials.
Serves as an IPM information resource to county UCCE programs, including over 50 UC Master Gardener programs.

Program Liaison and Coordination:
Manage the 4-H youth development program (YDP), events and activities and ensure compliance with best practices of positive youth development, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) best practices, policy and procedure. Monitor program compliance in line with University and 4-H YD policies and procedures. Work with groups of volunteers, youth, and community partners and serve as their direct liaison.
Provide training and support to community club leaders, project leaders, other volunteers, youth, and community partners using approved materials and curriculum, including (but not limited to) specific curriculum, positive youth development (Thrive), online enrollment systems, and policy. Provide feedback to Regional Program Coordinator and Advisor on needs for advanced training.
Support interested groups in starting new 4-H programs, including chartering new clubs, reviewing and approving documents, and submitting all paperwork to the appropriate individuals.
Maintain up-to-date understanding of 4-H YD policies and relevant UC ANR policies and ensure timely communication of new or existing 4-H policies, procedures, and enrollment processes to new and returning 4-H youth, volunteers, parents, and community partners.
Collaborate with 4-H Volunteer Management Organizations and committees. Attend meetings as needed. Aim to ensure a cohesive, diverse volunteer management system.
Effectively resolve conflict. Provide oversight, review complaints, and follow 4-H Conflict Resolution Policy. Effectively and timely resolve conflict. Keep your RPC (Regional Program Coordinator) informed of all conflicts and complaints. Notify Regional Program Coordinator (RPC) if the complaint escalates and needs higher review. Ensure all needed UC ANR individuals are notified as needed. All 4-H professionals serve as mandated reporters under California Law.
Disseminate 4-H information via the 4-H website, collaborative tools, emails, social media, newsletters, blogs, etc.
Be a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion so that all youth may engage in the 4-H program.
Serve as a liaison and communication link to community organizations, including but not limited to local schools, youth-based community organizations, race/ethnic-based community organizations, education-aligned organizations, and local fairs. Represent the 4-H YDP in the county. Provide information about the 4-H YDP to the public.
Build knowledge and skills in the areas of intercultural development, youth development, youth leadership, development of life skills, and volunteerism. Develop knowledge and expertise in a variety of content areas such as but not limited to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math), College & Career/Workforce Readiness, Healthy Living, Civic Engagement & Leadership through a Positive Youth Development (PYD) lens.
Attend and participate in relevant professional development opportunities, virtual webinars, state/regional meetings and trainings, California 4-H State Association meetings and trainings, and monthly state 4-H meetings, including in-person conferences as funding allows.

Monitor, ensure accuracy, and approve youth and volunteer enrollments in compliance with 4-H state policy. Recruit, train, and support volunteer enrollment coordinators to assist in the enrollment process.
Screen new volunteer applications, and ensure volunteers follow and complete all volunteer enrollment steps, including DOJ/FBI fingerprinting and required annual trainings.
Serve as the key contact person, providing guidance, support, and processing official documents in line with the University and 4-H YD policies and procedures. Ensure 4-H Record Retention Guidelines are followed.

Promote and expand 4-H programs in schools and communities.
In consultation with the Regional Program Coordinator and Advisor, assist with developing an effective outreach program to increase 4-H program participation. Assist with developing strategic and outreach plans to expand the 4-H program to diverse communities. Assist in assessing what communities are unserved/underserved and develop community outreach and education plans to extend programs. Conducts community outreach and education to minority and underserved populations and delivers educational programs in Spanish and English in culturally relevant and responsive ways.
Assist 4-H community clubs with outreach efforts to ensure compliance with affirmative action requirements and to expand and diversify youth and adult volunteer club membership.
In consultation with the Regional Program Coordinator (RPC) and Advisor, assist with developing programs or content to reach new audiences and/or establish programs in underserved areas.

Provide technical support and advice for 4-H event and program coordination. Monitor compliance of 4-H policy, including facility use agreement and risk management. Process facility use agreement and rental requests and ensure that established deadlines are followed.
Respond to policy inquiries from 4-H members, families and/or adult volunteers. Seek technical support from Regional Program Coordinator (RPC) and appropriate personnel at the statewide level.
Ensure 4-H members, families, volunteers, 4-H programs/units, and volunteer management organizations comply with University and 4-H policies and procedures. Position Overview
University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) Nutrition Policy Institute (NPI) offers a unique recruitment opportunity for Assistant Project Scientist to work on studies related to youth cardiometabolic health; school physical activity and nutrition programs (recess, PE, school meals); and nutrition and physical activity policy implementation science. Potential research projects include examining longitudinal trends in student cardiorespiratory fitness; determining changes in elementary school recess minutes and related practices pre-/post-passage of state-wide recess law in California; and determining the impact of school lunch program changes in New York City Public schools on student school meal participation.
Location Headquarters: UC ANR, NPI, UC Office of the President at 1111 Franklin Street, Eleventh floor, Oakland, CA 94607.
Major duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Project Scientist will include collecting, cleaning, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data; designing and managing studies; supporting grant writing efforts; and presenting and publishing research through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
The Assistant Project Scientist will also have the opportunity to develop grant writing and mentorship experience. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with expertise in quantitative methods and public health nutrition and physical activity who would like to develop expertise in areas such as natural experiments, drawing causal inference from observational data, randomized controlled trials, school health policy, qualitative methods, and implementation science. The Assistant Project Scientist will also develop and conduct applied research and evaluation that is consistent with UC ANR's Strategic Vision and NPI's Strategic Plan and disseminate findings and recommendations to inform programs and policy.
Reporting Relationship: The Assistant Project Scientist will report administratively and directly to the NPI Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications:
Education: A minimum of a doctorate degree in community nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, public health, health policy or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Preferred background includes experience with state and federal nutrition assistance programs.
Additional Qualifications:
Applicants need to meet appointment criteria for the respective University of California academic title series and evidence for success in meeting required academic advancement criteria as per UC Academic Personnel Manual
Experience in design and execution of community/public health nutrition research projects.
Experience in grantsmanship, including submitting NIH and other federal and foundation grants, and history of conducting research and evaluations.
Primary authorship in peer-reviewed journals and academic conference presentations of research findings.
Qualitative and quantitative research skills which include research design, sampling plans, and sample size calculations, data collection methodology and data analysis methods, and interpretation of findings.
Strong statistical training with experience in longitudinal analyses. Experience and high proficiency using statistical analysis software: Stata, SAS, or R.
Ability to produce well designed presentation materials using PowerPoint or other related software applications.
Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects, prioritize, and complete work efficiently in the face of competing demands. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills are required.

SALARY: The salary will be in the Project Scientist Series in Assistant Rank Step 1 - $76,700/year. The Project Scientist position is a definite term appointment. This position is guaranteed for 2 years with the possibility for renewal for a third year. Position Overview
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), in collaboration with the University of California, Merced, invites applications for a Professor of Cooperative Extension at the Assistant Rank, which has the formal appointment title Specialist in Cooperative Extension.
The Professor of Cooperative Extension-Groundwater Quantity and Quality will address the challenges of drought, climate change, and their link to long-term groundwater overdraft through an innovative research and extension program. In collaboration with academics, public agencies, and non-profit and private sector partners, they will build capacity across California to sustainably manage groundwater quantity and quality. The successful candidate is expected to develop applied research that supports sustainable use strategies and conduct outreach that facilitates the adoption of new science-based knowledge for water management in the western region of California's Central Valley. We seek a candidate with expertise in areas including hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, sustainable groundwater management, current (e.g., salinity, nitrates, TCPs) and emerging (e.g., microplastics, PFAS) contaminants in groundwater, groundwater monitoring and modeling, managed aquifer recharge, and strategic cropping systems.
Professors of Cooperative Extension, also known as UCCE (UC Cooperative Extension) Specialists, develop and conduct research and educational programs aimed at appropriate clientele groups in communities outside of UC campuses. UCCE Specialists have programs primarily focused on mission-oriented research or creative work that supports the university's efforts to extend knowledge, including outreach and community engagement. Mission-oriented research describes the complete research continuum that extends from basic research to applications of research results. This research is generally applied in nature and has, as a goal, the solution of a problem facing society that is related to the mission of the UCCE Specialist's discipline and the UCCE mission. UCCE Specialists will publish the results of applied research in a combination of research publication types, whether peer-reviewed or not, based on the relevant audiences served by the UCCE Specialist's program.
The extension program disseminates knowledge and information to clientele groups for their use in improving their abilities to understand and address problems and opportunities facing them. The extension educational program serves the University's public service mission. Educational program activities include, but are not limited to, collaborations with UCCE Advisors, other UCCE Specialists, campus faculty, program teams, workgroups, or clientele groups; developing and presenting educational materials; communicating to clientele through broadcast, print, or electronic media; participating in meetings with clientele; developing and presenting in-service training courses; organizing or participating in workshops, field tours, symposia or conferences. Much of this work is conducted in partnership with UC ANR's locally based UCCE Advisors. The UCCE Specialist - Advisor and faculty partnership creates an applied research network that benefits both the University and the public at large. This position does not include formal classroom instruction at the University.
Location Headquarters. The position will be housed at the UC West Side Research and Extension Center (WSREC) in Five Points and academically positioned within UC ANR, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Merced.
Position Details
The San Joaquin Valley holds significant importance as it leads the nation in the production of various orchard, field, and vegetable crops. However, it relies heavily on groundwater, especially in drought years, which increases pressure on supply and presents significant challenges to developing sustainable farming systems. Many farms and crops require innovative interventions through science-based solutions that address sustainability and enhance agricultural productivity under water-related challenges. Increasingly unpredictable climatic conditions are impacting natural systems as well as large, intensive cropping systems, making research and extension interventions critically important. The WSREC, where the position will be housed, is in the most intensive and diversified farming system in California, faced with multidimensional challenges centered around water availability and quality. The position will benefit from UC Merced's distinguished leadership in precision agricultural technology and its comprehensive portfolio of water research, education, and extension projects. This critical position will address important issues related to groundwater and salinity in this region, which have the potential to be scaled out across California and beyond.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Develop and implement a collaborative research, education and outreach program with the goal of enhancing the sustainable use and quality of groundwater
Conduct applied research on topics such as:
o Subsurface hydrology and assessing groundwater quality in the San Joaquin Valley
o Development and use of models of groundwater hydrology, groundwater/surface water interactions, and chemical fate and transport for management and planning activities, including various scenarios for water use in agriculture
o Design of conjunctive use scenarios for sustainable farming under different cropping patterns
o Evaluation of the impacts of climate change, droughts, floods, nitrates, pesticides, and other chemical applications on groundwater quality and quantity, and development of novel groundwater use strategies considering the quantity-quality relationship approach
o Development of different scenarios and practical guidelines for groundwater recharge through field measurements, remote sensing, and modeling
o Agricultural drainage and its impact on salinity management and groundwater quality
Extend knowledge on groundwater quality and management through different modalities and approaches, which may include extension publications, newsletters, web pages, blogs, policy briefs, UCCE Advisor meetings, on-site visits to farmer locations, stakeholder validation workshops, and grower workshops.
Develop and implement, in collaboration with UC ANR academics, educational programs on groundwater management, with a focus on conjunctive use that maximizes the sustainable use of the available water. This includes groundwater assessment, development of irrigation management and crop selection strategies.
Collaborate with UCCE Advisors and Specialists, UC Merced faculty, UC Research and Extension Centers, and UC ANR statewide programs, institutes, and program teams to conduct applied research and inform extension efforts at the local, regional, and statewide levels.
Engage with networks of groundwater management professionals throughout the state, including the Groundwater Resources Association, and provide expertise to agencies responsible for implementing and overseeing groundwater management, including the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), the State Water Resources Control Board, and regional Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs).
Network with scientists from DWR, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the US Geological Survey, as well as with private sector experts and stakeholders working on groundwater management plans and technologies.
Work closely with Westland and other water districts and relevant authorities to address implementation requirements and challenges of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and other related programs (e.g., The Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program).
Publish in relevant UCANR outlets and external scientific journals appropriate for the field of groundwater management.
Counties of Responsibility: This statewide position will support agriculture and its allied agencies and organizations in California. This is an exciting opportunity to impact diverse communities throughout the state.
Reporting Relationship: The position will be physically located at the UC West Side Research and Extension Center (WSREC), in Five Points, CA, with an official appointment with UC Agriculture and Nature Resources (UC ANR). The UCCE Specialist will also hold an additional 0% (uncompensated) Adjunct Professor series appointment with the working title of Professor of Cooperative Extension (Groundwater Quantity and Quality) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Merced. UC ANR will oversee the merit and promotion process, consistent with other UCCE Specialists, with input from the UCM Civil Engineering Department Chair and the WSREC Director. It is not a remote position; the candidate must be available to work onsite at the West Side Research and Extension Center in Five Points.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Education: A minimum of a Ph.D. (or international equivalent) in Hydrogeology, Hydrogeochemistry, Geophysics, Water Resources, Hydrological Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. Applicants who have not yet earned a Ph.D. must be within 12 months of completing their degree to be considered for the position.

Salary: The beginning salary will be in the Assistant Cooperative Extension Specialist Rank Step 1- $87,700 to Step 6 - $114,800 annually. Located on 320 acres of deep clay loam soil in western Fresno County in the San Joaquin Valley, WSREC has land suitable for growing row, orchard and field crops. The Center is equipped to conduct research on salinity management using multiple levels of saline irrigation water. WSREC is also equipped to conduct studies on groundwater management as it has deep and shallow groundwater wells along with surface water sources. WSREC has meeting and training facilities suitable for extension and outreach activities that are available for academics, students and farmers. The Center provides laboratory and office spaces to UC and non-UC academics. It provides labor, equipment, facilities, and technical and management support to UC and non-UC academics and personnel. Intermountain Research and Extension Center (IREC) is one the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources' ten Research and Extension Centers (RECs). IREC is located on 140 acres near Tulelake, CA in the northeast corner of the state. Research topics of current interest include crop variety development, integrated pest management, irrigation management, plant nutrition, and agriculture-wildlife interactions. Available Center facilities and equipment include a greenhouse; controlled post-harvest facility; drying ovens; automated potato grading line; mini-still for essential oil extraction; specialized small plot irrigation equipment; research adapted small plot planters and harvesters; and a full line of commercial farm equipment for field and vegetable crop production.
Under general supervision, the Senior Farm Maintenance Worker will inspect farm buildings, facilities, and equipment to ascertain whether repairs are needed; make necessary repairs or have work performed by other craft workers; maintain irrigation systems; and install, repair and replace concrete pipe, stands, vents, valves, gates and water pumps. The incumbent will operate, maintain, and repair farm machinery and farm/ facilities infrastructure including buildings, irrigation systems, crop and equipment storage, vehicles, research equipment, roads, fences, and landscaping. Assist technical staff and project leaders with field research and uniform cropping operations including planting, weeding, cultivation, irrigation, harvest, and data collection.
This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

Position Overview
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Area 4-H Youth Development Advisor for Outdoor Education at the Assistant rank. The Area 4-H Youth Development Advisor is responsible for the development of the UCCE 4-H Youth Development extension and research programs in Lassen, Modoc, Plumas and Sierra Counties. The Advisor will develop and deliver a program that will provide all youth meaningful personal development opportunities. The Advisor is expected to develop an extension and applied research program framed in positive youth development, emphasizing outdoor education programs and curricula to promote program growth and expanded opportunities for youth participation.
UCCE Advisors are responsible for applied research and extension of knowledge. Research activities are applied, needs-based, mission-oriented, and focused on addressing our communities' challenges. Extension activities are the educational practices Advisors use to share research results directly with clientele and communities. Increased knowledge and understanding of science-based research helps to support and promote the adoption of practices and technologies that solve problems. Extension methods may include individual consultations, presentations, organization of educational workshops and short courses, field demonstrations, and farm and site visits. The Advisor is expected to collaborate
with other 4-H personnel in implementation of
all delivery models, including in-school, after school, community club and other out of school time programs and projects. Information may also be disseminated via radio outreach, webinars, fact sheets, policy briefs, news blogs, and social media. Publications are expected in various formats, such as newsletters, articles for the popular press, curriculums, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed publications. Successful research and extension programs result in new information that improves knowledge or understanding and adoption of new skills, practices, changed attitudes, policies, and improved environmental, health, agricultural, economic, and/or social conditions. UCCE Advisors are evaluated through an academic advancement system based on four criteria: extending knowledge, applied research and creative activity, professional competence and activity, and University and public service.
Location Headquarters: This position will be headquartered in the UCCE office in Lassen County, 707 Nevada St., Susanville, CA 96130.
Position Details
The Advisor will develop and extend innovative 4-H Youth Development (YD) programs across the four-county area. The Advisor will cultivate both a strong community network and an academic network that supports an effective flow of information and creative work promoting positive youth development within the four-county area. The advisor will provide academic oversight of the 4-H community club program and educational leadership to county based 4-H staff, educators, volunteers, and community members. The Advisor will provide 15% FTE to strengthen the statewide 4-H network of outdoor education programming.
Specific within the four-county area, there are program development opportunities to enhance and build upon a strong traditional 4-H program. Excellent youth development opportunities exist in areas of youth-to-youth (e.g. teen-to-primary) learning models, youth-led community and volunteer training events, youth development collaborations with local agencies and organizations, regional camping experiences and outdoor events to better integrate area youth with their peers. The new advisor will have numerous community service organizations, agricultural producers, natural resources professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts with whom to build lasting networks supporting youth across the region. These wide-ranging professional networks will leverage current community interest into more active participation in the 4-H YD program. The advisor will also promote growth of the 4-H program by providing guidance and leadership through the 4-H Volunteer Management Organization (VMO) structure across the four-county area.
Lassen, Modoc, Plumas and Sierra Counties have millions of acres of public land with countless recreation facilities, trails, and outdoor education opportunities. The four-county area also enjoys strong collaborative relationships between UCCE advisors and staff across the different county offices and existing agriculture, natural resources, and nutrition programs providing many potential research and extension partnerships.
The Advisor will develop applied research projects across the four-county area as well as with statewide and multi-state collaborators. The research will guide and provide the basis for the improvement and growth of 4-H YD programs throughout the four-county area. General areas of potential research activity include comparison of school curriculums and experiential learning opportunities in developing leadership skills in youth; understanding youth motivation to participate in leadership activities and/or participate outdoor activities; and understanding long term outcomes/benefits of youth development and learning. Additionally, the Advisor will conduct creative projects that develop and/or adapt experiential learning and curricula that support outdoor education opportunities relevant to area youth. Research results will be published in such outlets as the Journal of Extension, Journal of Youth Development, and California Agriculture and shared with the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals and the American Educational Research Association.
Counties of Responsibility: This position will be headquartered in Lassen County, and will serve Lassen, Modoc, Plumas and Sierra Counties.
Reporting Relationship: The advisor serves under the administrative supervision of the (UCCE) County Director for Lassen County, with input from the County Directors for Modoc and Plumas/Sierra County UCCE, and programmatic supervision of the 4-H Statewide Director. This is not a remote position; the candidate must be available to work onsite at the headquarters location and travel to and be present in other counties with programmatic responsibilities. Specific expectations for maintaining office hours and fieldwork in the geographic area covered by this position will be outlined upon hire by the respective directors and supervisors.

Education: A minimum of a master's degree is required in youth/child development, human development, education, or a related field at the time of appointment.
Key Qualifications
Experience in conducting applied research, program evaluation, and education programs with youth is required.
Strong leadership skills and experience in program and personnel management are required.
Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed; proof of liability, and property damage insurance on the vehicle used is required. Must possess or obtain a valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University Vehicle.
Ability to drive on remote highways including evenings and weekends, and at times in inclement weather conditions.
A background investigation will be required for the successful candidate, including fingerprinting and a criminal history clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This position is subject to the requirements and compliance of the California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). Employment within UC ANR is contingent upon securing written acknowledgement to comply with California law.

This position is responsible for administration of policy, compliance, ethics, and Programmatic Agreements. The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) Office of Policy, Compliance, and Programmatic Agreements (PCPA), within the Office of the Controller and Business Services (OCBS), provides leadership for UC ANR policies, compliance obligations, and programmatic agreements, including memoranda of understanding (MOUs). The Director ensures UC ANR's statewide, regional, and county operations comply with University policy and state and federal law, while applying expert knowledge of University of California (UC) policies and regulatory requirements to guide contract terms, agreements, and governance decisions.
The Director is the division's central resource for all policy matters. The Director oversees policy development, compliance reviews, and programmatic updates. The role includes evaluating emerging laws and regulations, managing delegations of authority, overseeing conflict of interest reporting, and ensuring compliance with state information and transparency laws. The Director also leads UC ANR's records management and privacy programs to promote consistent and lawful information practices.
The Director acts as liaison with the Office of the General Counsel and UCOP administrative offices, advising senior leadership on legal, compliance, and procedural matters. The Director supports the UC ANR Controller, who serves as Campus Ethics and Compliance Officer (CECO) and Locally Designated Official (LDO). The Director contributes to systemwide committees, task forces, and delivers compliance training for UC ANR staff as needed.
In addition, the Director is responsible for the recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation of unit staff. In this role, the Director fosters a culture of service excellence, accountability, and technological proficiency in support of UC ANR's mission.

Position Overview:
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for an Associate Director/Academic Coordinator II with the UC ANR Policy Institute.
Location Headquarters: UC ANR, Davis, CA.
Purpose:
The Associate Director/Academic Coordinator II will provide statewide coordination and leadership for activities of the UC ANR Policy Institute. Specifically, this position will collaborate with the Director to develop new sources of funding including preparing grant applications and engaging with donors. This position will also communicate science-based research, pursue new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers internal and external to UC ANR, oversee contracts and grants, build relationships with local, state, and federal policymakers, and serve as a resource for UC academics engaging in science-to-policy work.
The UC ANR Policy Institute (Policy Institute), housed within the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, will be the one-stop shop for policymakers to find and easily access scientists and cutting-edge research on issues critical to California. The Policy Institute will also connect affiliated researchers to work across specialty areas, serve as a resource for UC academics interested in expanding policy-relevant work and communications, and will establish a policy advisory board to help identify priority research areas, grant opportunities, and partnerships. The Policy Institute will also conduct original research and real-time economic analyses to remain relevant and responsive to timely, critical issues.
Alignment. As described in UC ANR's Vision 2040, California faces a complex, ever-changing regulatory environment in which science-based input and community engagement are needed to inform policy decisions and implementation. Now more than ever, solutions are needed to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events and other disasters, advance more efficient methods of agriculture production, further sustainable land stewardship, strengthen food systems, and build resiliency to future impacts of social, political, and ecological challenges. As these challenges increase in complexity so, too, do their solutions. Local, state, and federal policies and regulations must adapt and be responsive, taking into consideration current scientific and technological advances.

Provide statewide coordination for activities of the UC ANR Policy Institute.
Lead and contribute to effective communication efforts (e.g., develop and maintain websites, social media, blogs, and other media).
Develop, adapt, implement, and evaluate program activities, training, curriculum, and other educational activities and multi-media materials aligned with strategic plan and/or clientele needs.
Write policy briefs and support academics in writing policy briefs.
Develop proposals for extramural funding (e.g., grants, contracts, gifts/donations).
Effectively communicate science-based research to a variety of audiences.
Collaborate with other UC ANR academics, campus-based specialists and faculty and/or others, to address priority issues.
Oversee contracts and grants.
Serve as a resource for UC academics engaging in science-to-policy work.
Design and deliver professional development opportunities for academics engaging in science-to-policy communications.

Reporting Relationship:
The Associate Director/Academic Coordinator II reports to the Director of the UC ANR Policy Institute who is responsible for supervision and evaluation of the position, and works closely with Associate Directors within the UC ANR Policy Institute on programs and projects. This position also collaborates with UC ANR academics, Cooperative Extension staff, other UC academics, Vice Provost of Academic Personnel, Associate Vice-President, and Vice-President.

Position Overview
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist (UCCE) - Workforce Development at the Assistant rank.
The Workforce Development Specialist will lead applied research, curriculum development, coordination, and statewide extension efforts to study, design, and implement innovative workforce programs aligned with California's evolving food, agriculture, natural resource, and bioeconomy sectors. The Specialist will address critical issues that will aid Californians-especially youth, underserved, and non-traditional learners-in acquiring the skills and credentials needed to access high-demand jobs and build inclusive economic prosperity.
The Specialist will collaborate with UC ANR statewide programs and institutes (e.g., UC ANR Innovate, 4-H, UC Master Gardeners, UC California Naturalist, Community Nutrition and Health, and the ANR Policy Institute), campus-based programs, and county-based UCCE Advisors to develop, pilot, and evaluate new workforce pathways and experiential learning models that extend beyond traditional college degree programs. These programs may include challenge-based learning, short- and long-term credentials, and career readiness initiatives in partnership with K-12 schools, community colleges, workforce boards, non-profits, and industry partners. To aid in implementing these new workforce development programs, the Specialist will conduct applied research to review and assess existing programs in California, other states, and other countries while working to tailor these models to unique and diverse contexts across California.
This position will bridge education and workforce systems, UC research, and California's agricultural and environmental priorities, ensuring that UC ANR programs prepare learners with relevant skills, industry-recognized credentials, and access to equitable career pathways.
UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Specialists develop and conduct research and educational programs for appropriate clientele groups in California communities. UCCE Specialists have programs primarily focused on mission-oriented research or creative work that supports the university's efforts to extend knowledge, including outreach and community engagement. Mission-oriented research describes the complete research continuum that extends from basic research to applications of research results. This research is generally applied in nature and has, as a goal, finding practical, cost-effective solutions for problems facing society related to the mission of the UCCE Specialist's discipline and the UCCE mission. UCCE Specialists publish the results of applied research in a combination of peer-reviewed publications and stakeholder-facing materials, including refereed journals, technical reports, and white papers, tailored to the needs of the audiences their programs serve.
The extension and outreach programs disseminate knowledge and information to clientele groups to help them better understand and address problems and opportunities they face. The extension educational program serves the University's public service mission. Educational program activities include but are not limited to collaborations with UCCE Advisors, other UCCE Specialists, campus faculty, program teams, workgroups, or clientele groups; developing and presenting educational materials; communicating to clientele through broadcast, print, or electronic media; participating in meetings with clientele; developing and delivering in-service training courses; organizing or participating in workshops, field tours, symposia or conferences. Much of this work will be conducted in partnership with UC ANR's locally based UCCE Advisors. The UCCE Specialist - Advisor and faculty partnership creates an applied research network that benefits the University and the public. This position does not include formal classroom instruction at the University but fulfills the University's public service mission through community-engaged scholarship and statewide extension.
Location Headquarters. The position will be housed with the UC ANR Innovate Statewide Program at UC ANR headquarters, 2801 2nd Street, Davis, CA, 95618. It is not a remote position: the candidate must be available to work onsite at the agreed-upon office location.
Position Details
The Specialist will focus on workforce innovations across a range of emerging and applied domains, including but not limited to:
Challenge-based STEM programming - such as the Ag Robotics Challenge and AgTech Academy, which engage high school and community college students in hands-on agricultural problem-solving.
Certificate and microcredential programs - designed to prepare learners for careers in agricultural technology, sustainable farming, irrigation management, biological inputs, or community food systems.
Work-based learning and internships - expanding UC ANR's capacity to deliver inclusive youth and adult internships, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship programs in partnership with employers and regional ecosystems.
Workforce-aligned 4-H initiatives, such as curricula in agriscience, business skills, climate resilience, and food innovation, are delivered through new and nontraditional 4-H delivery modes.
Curriculum and instructional design support-for UC ANR staff and academic personnel implementing educational programs for K-16 and adult learners across urban and rural communities.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Conduct scholarly and applied research on workforce development topics. Areas of research for this specialist might include:
o Analyzing the effects of existing workforce development strategies and programs in California, across the U.S., and globally,
o Implementing workforce development programs and evaluating their impacts using evidence-based methods and continuous improvement practices,
o Partnering with California employers to study the viability of on-the-job trainings, apprenticeships, and other employer-based strategies for facilitating upward career mobility,
o Evaluating student outcomes and experiences from existing and newly developed curricula, especially those targeting youth, underserved, and non-traditional learners,
o Documenting job market trends, skill gaps, and unemployment, and identifying factors contributing to robust and well-functioning labor markets.
o Appraising alternative workforce pathways, particularly non-traditional educational pathways, based on their short- and long-run outcomes for participants.
o Creating evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness, accessibility, and impact of non-traditional learning models, workforce interventions, and other strategies for enhancing labor market outcomes.
Publish research findings in relevant peer-reviewed journals, applied research outlets (e.g., California Agriculture), and industry- or public-facing magazines, news outlets, and media.
Conduct and report workforce needs assessments to identify priority issues, skills gaps, and opportunities for K-16 and adult learners across California's food, agriculture, and natural resource sectors.
Develop, implement, and evaluate UC ANR Cooperative Extension workforce development programs that align with ANR's Strategic Vision, Public Value Statements, and Statewide Initiatives.
Provide subject matter expertise in curriculum and instructional design for certificate programs, challenge-based learning, youth education, and adult workforce initiatives.
Design and implement workforce development strategies aligned with UC ANR's mission and the needs of California's agri-food and natural resource sectors.
Lead curriculum development for non-credit, certificate, and microcredential programs that support youth and adult learners, which are delivered directly by UC ANR or in partnership with external partners and stakeholders.
Work with other UC ANR Specialists and Advisors, UC campus faculty, local communities, industry stakeholders, educational partners, and others to identify statewide and local needs based on emerging skill gaps and job market trends and to deploy high-impact learning experiences statewide.
Integrate challenge-based and experiential learning models such as the Ag Robotics Challenge and AgTech Academies.
Develop or co-develop and facilitate professional development for UC ANR staff and volunteers delivering workforce-related programs.
Organize workforce convenings, trainings, and outreach events.
Secure competitive funding from state and federal agencies, foundations, and industry.
Counties of Responsibility: This statewide position supports UC ANR programs and academics serving youth and adult learners across California. This is an exciting opportunity to impact diverse communities throughout the state.
Reporting Relationship: This position will report directly to the UC ANR Chief Innovation Officer. It is a statewide position requiring collaboration with UC ANR personnel and external partners throughout California.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Education: A minimum of a Ph.D. (or international equivalent) in human resource management, applied or agricultural economics, economics, business, education, curriculum design, or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Applicants who have not yet earned a Ph.D. must be within 12 months of completing their degree to be considered for the position.
Key Qualifications
Experience in curriculum design, instructional systems, or workforce program development.
Familiarity with certificate and credentialing frameworks, especially in agriculture, STEM, or community development.
At least two years of experience working with or conducting research relevant to K-16 learners or non-traditional learners.
Experience conducting applied educational research and program evaluation.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals and applied research outlets.
A track record of effectively engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Ability to travel on a flexible schedule as needed. Proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Must possess or obtain a valid California Driver's License to drive a university vehicle.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: The beginning salary will be in the Assistant Cooperative Extension Specialist Rank Step 1- $90,600 to Step 6 - $118,500 annually. This position is eligible for indefinite status, subject to terms noted in Section 315 of the ANR Policy and Procedure Manual (PPM). If the successful candidate is currently a UCCE specialist with indefinite status, the candidate will be offered the position commensurate with applicable experience and professional qualifications, with eligibility to retain such indefinite status.
The Cooperative Extension Specialist position is a two or three-year renewable term appointment. Performance in this position is evaluated annually, with merit actions being evaluated every two years. Upon completing a successful review, you may be reappointed for another definite term. Our intention with this definite-term appointment is to be reappointed based on positive performance reviews and the continuing need for the position.
