Equipment engineer job description

CMC Materials is searching for a technically strong, hands-on Equipment Engineer. As an Equipment Engineer you will work in a team environment to ensure safe working conditions, maintain equipment, and drive improvement. The Equipment Engineer supports a broad range of process and facilities equipment across three manufacturing areas. The engineer will work closely with the manufacturing team, process engineers, maintenance technicians and the quality team to sustain day-to-day operations and drive continuous improvement. Responsibilities include: Maintaining reliable manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, and costs. Identifying and implementing all vital safety procedures required for efficient repairs and maintenance of production equipment.

Developing innovative solutions to equipment performance issues within prescribed change control requirements. Performing routine and preventative maintenance. Maintain and upgrade existing facilities systems, such as HVAC, compressed gases, and chilled water. Project lead equipment and facilities upgrades, ranging from $20k to $2M. Improving equipment reliability by delivering the necessary availability to support required production volumes while maintaining and improving quality standards.

Developing and driving thorough preventative maintenance procedures. Maintaining accurate and reliable equipment performance records and metrics. Identifying and ensuring spare parts and consumables are available as vital. Crafting and maintaining accurate specifications and work instructions for equipment maintenance. Developing effective OCAP procedures.

Training and certifying maintenance personnel. Researching and purchasing new manufacturing equipment as necessary. Qualifications: Education: BS in Electrical or Mechanical engineering or equivalent required Experience: Demonstrated ability in a high volume manufacturing environment. (3+ years)

Technical: Experience with AC and DC electrical circuits, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, compressed air and N2 systems and other equipment related systems. Experience with sensor (Proximity, retro-reflective, level, atmospheric, temperature, etc.) operation and troubleshooting. Experience with air/hydraulic cylinder repair, diagnostics and maintenance. Confirmed ability to develop documents such as maintenance work instructions, procedure manuals and safety instructions including LO/TO. Ability to write and present routine reports and technical information

Supports business objectives through any of the following specialty areas: Substation power equipment and/or maintenance engineering, system protection, control room/operations support, system planning, substation design and/or the implementation of capital projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides technical support to employees and contractors in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of substation power equipment.
* Prepares power equipment specifications for the purposes of procuring major power system components.
* Provides technical support and engineering solutions in the development of planned maintenance activities, and then tracks progress of the goals while recommending prioritization of corrective action activities.
* Analyzes power equipment events, determines root causes and recommends system improvements.
* Ensures power equipment is in compliance with associated regulatory requirements (NERC, IUB, ect.)
* Collaborates with other engineers and departments which may include system protection, SCADA, project managements, T- line design, T-line maintenance, or planning.
* Develop test procedures by working with new test equipment and software to create new test plans.
* Assist in response to electrical system emergencies on a 24 hour basis.
* Attends meetings and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills.

REQUIREMENTS

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Major in Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
* Minimum Experience:
* Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in related area for an Intermediate Engineer level.
* Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in related area for Senior Engineer level

* Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
* Possess sound analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.
* Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision, in a team environment.
* Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
* Ability to learn and utilize job specific software.

Position Summary:
As a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in manufacturing sustaining efforts in a high volume, consumables manufacturing environment. You will define and perform preventive maintenance on optical, mechanical, electrical and fluidics systems. You will work to improve equipment uptime and reliability. You will also apply organic chemistry principles in troubleshooting manufacturing and equipment process issues.

Responsibilities:
Define and perform preventive maintenance on optical, mechanical, electrical and fluidics systems Use mechanical, optical, fluidics and organic chemistry knowledge to troubleshoot manufacturing process and equipment issues, as they arise Perform basic computer/software troubleshooting Develop, write and update manuals and procedures Train other engineers and production personnel on procedure, process and equipment changes Work in a team environment to improve equipment reliability and uptime Construct and execute controlled experiments (including DOE's) to address equipment-related yield and quality issues and drives implementation of solutions in a production environment to meet production goals Develop or source alternative replacement for obsoleted parts and execute changes through change management On night shift, provide maintenance and process support to a high volume manufacturing organization

Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years experience in high volume manufacturing environment preferred Experience in opto/mechanical/electrical system, fluidics and organic chemistry processes (preferably DNA-related)
Competencies:
Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude is required Experience in writing procedures and training is required Basic computer troubleshooting skills are required Good inter-departmental communication skills and documentation skills are required Demonstrated ability to work independently is required Experience with Statistical Process Control, JMP and DOE techniques is a plus

Education:
B Sc/B. Eng/Masters in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical EngineeringDiploma with at least 15 years Relevant Experience
