ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Operate light, medium, and heavy-duty maintenance and construction equipment such as dump trucks, water trucks, rollers, sweepers, front-end loaders, backhoes, paint stripers, skid steer, road grader, and other equipment as required in the maintenance and repair of city streets and roadways. * Perform a variety of heavy manual work in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of structures, devices, and systems in the right of way to include sidewalks, curbs, streets, storm drains, and concrete structures. * Conduct Winter Maintenance Operations to include applying sand, salt, and brine to road surfaces and snow removal. * Respond to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner. * Provides for the maintenance and repairs of city streets and roadways, including preparing road surfaces for patching, painting, chip sealing, and other repairs as needed. Position Overview In this role, you'll perform various tasks to assist with the production of asphalt and maintenance of the plant. From operating a loader to supply the plant with materials to maintenance and repairing the plant, you'll play an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) * Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions. * Service and grease plant parts, i.e. change belts, grease bearings, and maintain cleanliness of the plant. * Order and maintain inventory of plant parts, grease, asphalt oil, etc. * Direct general operations of loader operator, laborer and scale operator. * Production planning and quality assurance related to asphalt production. * Load trucks with proper materials for delivery. * Fuel, oil, grease and check other necessary loader parts to ensure proper function of equipment. * Maintain cleanliness of plant premises. * Perform general maintenance and repair on equipment as assigned. * Assist crew, including shoveling and clean-up. * Routinely assist with general labor and maintenance tasks. * Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production. * Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material or equipment. * Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs. * Regular and timely attendance. * Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Requirements * Must have a valid driver's license. * Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment-controlled substance testing * Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality. * Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision. * Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed. * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. * Ability to apply critical thinking skills to determine the cause & repair down equipment. * Ability to work independently and under high-stress situations safely. Preferred Requirements * Previous asphalt production and/or construction related experience preferred. * Previous plant operating or plant maintenance experience preferred. * Welding/fabrication experience preferred but not required. * Knowledge of machines, tools, equipment, front end loader, and other related construction equipment highly preferred. * Basic computer skills.
