What You'll Do As a Heavy Equipment Operator at Alpha, you'll be trusted to run major iron on meaningful projects across Oʻahu. You will: Operate excavators and loaders for mass excavation, trenching, grading, and site development Perform precision grading and material placement to spec - not "close enough" Work on prevailing wage projects with professional crews and strong leadership Use GPS systems (Trimble Earthworks preferred) to execute accurate, efficient cuts and fills Conduct daily equipment inspections and operate machinery safely and responsibly Coordinate closely with Foremen and crew to keep production moving Read and interpret plans, grades, and stakes without hand-holding Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite This is hands-on, production-driven work - and your skill directly impacts the success of the project. While working on-site housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. You are responsible for the flight from your home base to HNL. Transportation to wake island is provided by government sponsored aircraft. This is a negotiated union position. Key Role: Operate various heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, and front-end loaders on environmental and construction job sites to haul, dump, spread, excavate, backfill, level, and grade various types of soil and stabilizing materials. Monitor the job site for hazards and challenge unauthorized personnel on job site and maintain a safe working environment. Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, including eye contact with ground personnel and recognize job site specific hazards. Assists in proper rigging/load securing methods/devices, and the proper utilization of such devices in accordance with OSHA and DOT standards during lifting, loading, and transportation operations. Maintain safe excavation areas to include benching, shoring, and barricading as necessary to allow. Grade gravel and dirt roads. Repairs road surfaces. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Initiates or annotates various forms or reports as needed. Performs routine maintenance, servicing, and emergency repairs to equipment as required. Uses proper hand and arm signals to direct/spot other equipment operators. Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects. During the summer months, when traffic at landfill is extraordinarily heavy, the laborer is stationed at the landfill entrance in a chair to direct the traffic. Directs the flow of trucks. Communicates with the drivers verbally or by hand signals. Lifts construction materials for projects related to site maintenance i.e., lumber, bags of concrete mix, hand tools, etc. Uses hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes and chain saws. Manually separates metal, white goods, lumber and cardboard from trash on tipping floor at landfills with transfer station. III. Qualifications A.
