    Job Description Heavy Equipment OperatorGrade 13Salary: $40,872.00 ($19.65 hr) - $44,179.20 ($21.24 hr) Supervisor: Travis McLendon - Roads Superintendent PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION The purpose of this classification is to operate heavy equipment and perform manual work functions associated with transportation of materials and construction, maintenance and repair of county landfills, roads, bridges, and drainage systems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Operates a variety of heavy equipment, machinery and tools used in construction, maintenance and repair of county landfills, roads, bridges, and drainage systems (which may include a compactor, front-end loading truck, motor grader, bulldozer, scraper, asphalt spreader); operates all other equipment, machinery, and tools as assigned. Performs manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance and repair of county landfills, roads, bridges, and drainage systems (which may include constructing/repairing bridges; building/repairing roads; patching holes; rolling/packing asphalt; moving soil/earth; grading roads, shoulders, or other areas; digging holes or trenches; installing pipe; shoveling asphalt, road mix, rock, dirt, etc.; trimming and clearing shrubbery; removing trees and tree limbs; removing debris from ditches and right-of-ways; hauling materials; or loading and unloading trucks). Transports, loads, and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects. Monitors equipment gauges and other indicators for non-standard conditions; reports faulty equipment for repair; performs basic equipment repairs. Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment/machinery in good working condition (which includes inspecting equipment, checking condition of tires, checking/replacing fluid levels, greasing equipment, and washing/cleaning equipment). Cleans/maintains grounds and buildings of county facilities as needed; cleans/maintains areas around compactors and trash receptacles. Prepares and/or receives various forms, logs, reports or other documents; processes and forwards as appropriate. Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service. Responds to routine requests for information from employees, officials, the public or other individuals. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS May supervise activities of inmates on assigned work details. May provide direction and training to other staff as assigned. Conducts various errands as assigned (e.g., pick up parts or supplies). Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of operating and servicing trucks and heavy construction equipment; knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; knowledge of departmental functions, organization, and policies; knowledge of basic equipment and vehicle maintenance practices and procedures; and knowledge of the security procedures associated with supervising inmate work details. Skill in operating a variety of trucks and small, medium, and heavy construction equipment; skill in driving; and skill in performing basic equipment and vehicle maintenance tasks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Creation of Work Order to drive a reduction in unplanned maintenance through a PM program * Performance reports generated for each maintenance techs time entered into system for both reactive work and preventative work to capture hours utilized vs clock hours * Coordinate PM dates with Scheduling and Production weekly against the current production schedule * Review and analyze MaintainX records to improve PM schedule and increase effectiveness * Work with parts room attendant/ purchaser to be sure parts are kitted for PM's in advance * Confirm entry of PM WO's for accuracy of dates time spent and parts consumed * Coordinate, plan and schedule MWO's for contractors for PM support, Capital Projects, and facility repairs * Work with Safety Manager to be sure all applicable insurance, governmental and safety inspections are scheduled and tracked via MaintainX system * Work with maintenance techs to review any and all referenced log documentation and PM check sheets for accuracy * Work with maintenance techs across all shift to train and communicate work that is planned * Verify any necessary required ISO and/or SQF documentation that is needed by working with the ISO and SQF Administrator. * Confirm that * PM maintenance work orders are completed in a timely manner by all maintenance personnel. Expectations are to be completed during shift. * Provide performance and quality maintenance completion analysis via the following reports (not all inclusive): Number and/or proportion of work orders fully planned in the total backlog, Work Order completed as planned, Work Orders Right First time, Frequency of Repeating Work orders, Incomplete Work Orders by Required Date, Work Orders Overdue from Scheduled Date, and Work Orders Complete by Tech Type * Must comply with all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards. * Required to maintain consistent and acceptable attendance according to the assigned schedule provided by the manager * Meet departmental goals and defined key performance indicators (KPIs) * Able to read and interpret pneumatic, instrumentation, hydraulic and electrical drawings and manuals to the extent of transferring the ability to others * In-depth advanced abilities to troubleshoot all mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and operational issues such as but not limited to; HVAC, process chilled water systems, heating, automation, extrusion, ECT. * Other duties as assigned. * Responsible for efficient asset utilization and resource loading. * Responsible for maintaining reducing unplanned downtime with effective PM program * Responsible for Pareto of highest downtime codes and specific reason along with developing plan to resolve. * Direct, support and guide all Techs with the use of MaintainX * Ensures food safety, good manufacturing practices, and ISO Quality System processes are maintained.
