    Summary About the Position: You will operate equipment and perform duties in support of the maintenance functions at the project. Operate a construction-grade tractor with various attachments; maintenance duties to maintain and repair the dam and recreation facilities; during the flood season, operate the dam on a rotational basis, and operate a 75-ton mobile boom crane. Responsibilities Maintain and repair hydraulic gates, hoists, hangers, cranes, elevators, sump pumps, water system pumps, chlorinates and stand-by generators. Install and repair machinery. Repair light switches, outlets and fixtures. Check for energized or overloaded circuits using an ammeter and voltmeter. Work with 110V and220V single-phase and 440V three-phase circuits. Weld steel and aluminum components using welding processes (e. g. , arc, oxy-acetylene, etc. ). Dam operation: Collect humidity, temperature and wind velocity readings from weather instrument, make gage readings pertaining to water storage, and performs related calculations. Remove large logs and other debris from the back of the dam; remove and lower large equipment and heavy supplies into the dam; and raise and lower personnel on the downstream side of the dam to repair and inspect the structure. Operate a construction-grade tractor for both new construction and repairs to existing systems by: loading and placing roadbase and leveling it to finish grades or contours for roadways, road shoulder sand boat launch ramps; Excavate and trench for culverts, leach systems and underground utility lines; maintaining roadside drains and firebreaks; and clearing sedimentation and debris from boat launch ramps and roadways below gross pool. Specific duties will include tasks such as removing, and replacing ties, pulling and driving spikes, shoveling rock ballast, loading, and unloading equipment and material, repairing, and replacing rail, right of way clearing and cleaning, removing and replacing rail anchors and other various maintenance tasks as may be assigned. * Perform railroad track maintenance, repair, and installation. * Handle, unload and move track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks. * Maintain track beds by cutting vegetation and brush when needed, and sweeping, picking, and digging dust from movable track parts. * Inspect, clear, and maintain drainage facilities. * Remove and replace ballast; tamp ballast; unload or assist in unloading ballast from ballast cars. * Safely and effectively operate various types of tools and equipment such as hammers, jacks, and other mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools. * Observe and inspect the condition of the railroad tracks, track beds and right-of-way for problems or defects per the Federal Railroad Administration and California Public Utilities Commission regulations. Through visual inspections identify broken rails, defective switches, and signals, deteriorating track bed, track obstructions and weather-related problems; check switch points; observe right-of-way and passing trains for shifted loads and spillage. * Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives cranes, off track equipment and on on-track equipment. * Understand and follow NCTD and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures. * Wear prescribed safety apparel and personal protective equipment. * Complete written forms and reports as required. * Perform flagging duties as may be required. * Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety and maintenance. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Experience * High School diploma or GED required. The employee will be required to work physically with tools such as shovels, axes, other hand tools, and hand power tools that are related to forestry and construction activities. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of weight and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds of weight.
