The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, environmentally responsible handling of material and operation of equipment as well as occasional operation of dump trucks. Key Responsibilities * Operate hydraulic excavators (e.g., Cat 330, 336, 349, or similar) to perform precise digging, trenching, and grading. * Excavate for utility installation, including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems (Mainline Pipe Crew). * Perform bulk earthmoving, slope work, and grading in large-scale excavation projects (Mass Excavation Crew). * Read and interpret construction plans, grade stakes, and laser levels. * Ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment, following company and OSHA safety standards. * Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and report mechanical issues. * Work collaboratively with crew members, site supervisors, and project managers. Hourly Range:• $26.00 - $29.00, based on experience. Qualifications * Minimum 3 years of experience operating excavators in pipe operation (water mains, storm, or sanitation sewers). * Experience in mainline pipe installation or mass excavation preferred. * Ability to work with GPS machine control systems is a plus. * Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, trenching safety, and soil conditions. * Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment and in various weather conditions. * Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus. * Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check. Additional Information Responsibilities Operate equipment used for construction purposes such as screeds, cranes, bulldozers, loaders, compost mixers, excavators, etc. Build levels and excavate land surfaces using a variety of construction equipment. Clear construction areas of debris and other hazardous materials prior to beginning a project, and dispose of it properly. Transport waste to appropriate locations, if required. Ensure that heavy equipment that is to be used on a construction project is cleaned on a regular basis. Maintain and update inventory of supplies, material and equipment used in each project. Perform preventative and general maintenance on heavy equipment. Make sure that heavy equipment is safe for use by performing constant checks. Ensure that all equipment is safely and securely stored at the end of each work day. Take instruction from supervisor for daily work tasks and provide feedback to supervisor on a daily basis. Ensure that work reports are prepared at the end of each day and handed over to the supervisor. Maintain knowledge of safe construction work practices and procedures
