Purpose Purpose: Performs a wide range of resource management and general maintenance activities in parks to support the implementation of the Metro Parks resource management program. May perform a variety of resource management and maintenance duties such as mowing, fertilizing, trimming, etc.
Implements the non-native plant species management control plan throughout Metro Parks and eradicates non-native plant species including but not limited to autumn olive, honeysuckle, Canada thistle, etc.
Trains other park crews in the identification of invasive plants and their proper management and control techniques.
Completes and maintains computerized pesticide records for the parks and keeps associated maps updated.
Assists with the identification, evaluation and mapping of Metro Parks areas with concentrations of invasive species; assists with the development of a long-term plan to control efforts to control noxious vegetation and invasive species.
Assists with the management and restoration of prairies including the gathering, drying, cleaning and sowing of seed.
Participates in other areas of prairie management such as prescribed burning and woody species control.
May plant, fertilize, prune, and transplant trees.
Assists other resource management staff with various resource management projects including brush clearing, tree planting and sowing grasses, wetland and forest restoration, controlled succession, wildlife management, etc.
Assists other park crews during emergencies; performs snow removal and storm damage cleanup as required.
Performs manual labor and duties related to construction, and completes park projects as assigned.
Cleans Metro Parks' facilities and vehicles; performs other custodial work including trash and litter pick up.
May operate equipment including but not limited to trucks, mowers, tractors, power tools and chainsaws
May perform basic painting; may assist in the repair of buildings, signs, tables, etc.
May assist in construction of bridges, fences, trails, etc.
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) plus one year semi-skilled maintenance and repair experience. Knowledge of resource management, safety practices and procedures, basic building and grounds maintenance methods, principles of construction, equipment operation and construction trades.
Attendance: Being present at work is an essential function of the position.
Team-Oriented: Works on a team. Outstanding customer service, communications and interpersonal skills.
Language Skills: Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, professionally and courteously with visitors and members of the public, vendors, co-workers and staff. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk and hear, operate grounds maintenance and heavy equipment, lift heavy objects, operate power and hand tools, drive park vehicles, off-road vehicles, and golf carts, etc. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, etc. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of the job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee spends a portion of their time working in the shop. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Summary Description: The Operational Technology (OT) Engineering Intern will support the Control Systems team within BITS. This role assists in maintaining and enhancing NCEC's OT infrastructure. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting, supporting system enhancements, performing data analysis, and assisting with integration tasks such as commissioning new Distributed Energy Resource (DER) or Demand Response (DR) resources into the Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), Pi Historian, Energy Management System (EMS), and System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Academic and Trade Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another analytically intensive field.
Coursework or interest in power systems, energy technologies, or data analytics is preferred.
Work Experience:
Prior experience is not required, but exposure to the power/energy industry, engineering projects, or IT systems is a plus.
Familiarity with SCADA, DER/DR, or related technologies is desirable but not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
