Position Summary
Exercises independent discretion in handling complex and/or high exposure commercial liability claims and commercial litigation.
This is a work from home position.
Strong preference for the successful candidate to live within the state of Pennsylvania or New York, serving the Northeast Regional Commercial Liability claim team. Consideration will be given for candidates residing elsewhere within ERIE's corporate footprint.
The successful candidate will primarily handle complicated and/or high exposure commercial liability claims.
A company vehicle will be provided only if the successful candidate resides in Pennsylvania or New York
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts investigations, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage, liability, and resolution strategies.
Handles or assists in handling of litigated claims as directed. Makes recommendations regarding litigation as appropriate.
Responds to complaints and inquiries and resolves issues.
Selects and directs outside experts, and vendors.
Trains and mentors less experienced staff.
Completes required training.

Complex Claims Specialist, Managed Care, E&O, D&O
Remote
Liberty Mutual has an immediate opening for a Complex Claims Specialist with Managed Care, Errors & Omissions (E&O) and Directors & Officers (D&O) Professional Liability claims experience. The Complex Claims Specialist, with minimal supervision, handles a book of specialty lines claims under E&O and D&O policies issued to health plans and other Managed Care Organizations throughout the entire claim's life cycle. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting investigations, evaluating coverage, setting adequate reserves, monitoring, documenting, and settling/closing claims in an expeditious and economical manner within prescribed authority limits for the line of business.

Responsibilities
Analyzes, investigates and evaluates the loss to determine coverage and claim disposition.
Utilizes proprietary claims management system to document claims and to diary future events or follow up.
Issue detailed coverage position letters for all new claims within prescribed time frames.
Within prescribed settlement authority, establishes appropriate reserves for both indemnity and expense and reviews on a regular basis to ensure adequacy. Makes recommendations to set reserves at appropriate level for claims outside of authority level.
Prepares comprehensive reports as required. Identifies and communicates specific claim trends and account and/or policy issues to management and underwriting.
Manages the litigation process through the retention of counsel. Adheres to the line of business litigation guidelines to include budget, bill review and payment.
Pro-actively manages the case resolution process. Actively participates in mediations and arbitrations, as well as negotiation discussions within limit of settlement authority.
Participates in the claims audit process.
Provides claims marketing services by meeting with brokers and insureds.
As required, maintains insurance adjuster licenses
Qualifications
Bachelors' and/or advanced degree
7 + years claims/legal experience, with at least 2 years within a technical specialty preferred (Managed Care, Errors & Omissions and Directors & Officers)
Advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices and techniques, to include but not limited to coverage issues, and product line knowledge
Functional knowledge of law and insurance regulations in various jurisdictions
Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrated advanced analytical, decision making and negotiation skills

Responsibilities
* Manages an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
* Establishes action plan based on case facts, best practices, protocols, regulatory issues and available resources.
* Plans and conducts investigations of claims to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
* Assesses policy coverage for submitted claims and notifies the insured of any issues; determines and establishes reserve requirements, adjusting reserves, as necessary, during the processing of the claim, refers claims to the subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
* Evaluates actual damages associated with claims and conducts negotiations, within assigned authority limits, to settle claims.

Qualifications

The Express Claims department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the new role of Express Claims Specialist I. This HQ-based role will work within the Express Claims Center and will primarily handle first party auto exposures eventually including total loss settlement and first party injury exposures with no dollar authority limit. Under CIC's current staffing guidelines, this position will be based in the HQ (Cincinnati) area. This is a non-exempt (hourly) role with promotional opportunities. As a Specialist, Business Insights, you'll extract and manipulate internal and external data through R/SAS/SQL/Python, perform diagnostic and inferential analysis, and communicate actionable insights to business partners. You'll also work with business partners to determine data and information needs to aid the business with decision making and build statistical and visual solutions using sophisticated business intelligence tools. And you may serve as a lead to others for information and data needs. Your focus will be to maximize the insight gained from internal and external data, ensuring that business partners are making decisions in an optimally informed way.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Functions as the specialist in data extraction from databases, tables, data warehouses and other sources through R/SAS/SQL/Python. Develops, produces, and maintains inferential, statistical, ad hoc and custom analyses and modeling for functional business areas. May use various data access tools to pull information for reports and solutions.
Builds and maintains relationships and serves as a trusted financial and operational measurement resource to clients, internal risk partners and other stakeholders.
Creates and presents financial and operational results. Ensures that insights are action oriented. May develop new statistical and visual solutions for relevant insights.
Consults with business partners to understand, align and deliver work that supports business objectives and priorities.
Leverages statistical inferencing when conducting analysis. Communicates significance in findings when working with business partners. May build business intelligence applications using statistical, database and/or general programming languages and tools.
May assist other associates with preparation of reports and use of information systems, software and related sources of information and may train other users on report preparation and data base access.
Serves as a single point of contact and consultant for business areas for the intake and prioritization of data, reporting, analysis, and advanced statistical work.
Leads and serves as a main point of contact for projects. Monitors, reviews and analyzes the external environment to support the research and analysis done with data extracted from internal sources. Presents and discusses these findings with customers.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director and does not have direct reports.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education:Undergraduate studies in data or business analytics, computer science, management information, business, mathematics or related field with post-graduate studies preferred
Experience: Six or more years of related experience with data extraction, data manipulation, data visualization analysis, and problem solving; working with large database. Professional experience in insurance, financial services, or a related industry preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
In-depth knowledge of business policies and procedures, customer service concepts and practices. In-depth understanding of and working knowledge to build data visualization and business intelligence tools. Strong communication skills to interact with others. Ability to understand business processes and the data produced by them. Understanding of functional and operational measurement needs, analyze data requests and interpret business problems into solutions. Ability to work under tight time constraints. Capable of developing distinctive and understandable data visualizations. Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
