In the most Android cases there is no need of ASM knowledge (only when RE Android libraries). Analyzing Android binaries you need to know Dalvik bytecode and Java. If you meant ASM in Windows ecosystem then yes, you need to know it in detail. What has been the hardest to RE? I hate packers they will encrypt and obfuscate payload, sometimes drop libraries or other executables to communicate with.
