This position is responsible for assisting Alternatives For Crime (AFC) Scholarship Foundation, Incorporations President / Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in providing services for projects assigned. The projects consist of meeting project commitments inclusive of providing evidence-based Tutoring services to youth on probation 12 to 20 years of age from the District of Columbia Superior Courts. The position requires providing educational enrichment, life-skills exposure, problem-solving techniques, and communication skills to influence educational, behavioral and the functional progress of Juvenile offenders on probation from the District of Columbia Superior Courts. These positions require constant communication with designated Probation officers assigned to youth. The positions require writing skills to complete monthly reports provided to AFC Scholarship Foundation President/CEO.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure students are participating in lessons assigned.
Assist students to complete homework assignments and classroom assignments when needed.
Administer exercises and activities to facilitate clients academic improvement through the utilization of blended evidenced-based educational core curriculums provided through the District of Columbia Public Schools.
Ensure students are logged in properly (online programs) when working in the program and logged out properly when tutoring session is completed.
Ensure that students are adhering to program policies and procedures.
Collaborate with parents/guardians, social workers, probation officers and staff members to assess the clients needs and how best to address them.
Respect and maintain the confidentiality of all clients.
Encourage and support client by maintaining and encouraging a positive attitude about learning, improving self-esteem respecting the client, and involving him or her in decisions about the learning process, supporting the clients efforts and being prompt for all scheduled sessions.
Maintain good order and discipline with client, safeguarding their health and safety.
Meet with CSSD, Probation Officers, and Court appearances when scheduled or required.
Provide reports to CSSD, Probation Officers and AFC Administrative Staff when required and or specified.

Job DescriptionBright Minds Inc. is a licensed HIT (High-Impact Tutoring) provider through OSSE for the 2024-2025 school year. Our REAL (Racial Equity in Academic Learning) HIT program provides individualized academic programs in high-priority DC schools. We are a franchise of the Huntington Learning Center, one of the largest tutoring companies in the country. Our DC HIT programs last year produced excellent results at our partner schools, with an average of over 5 months of grade level progress per student. We need passionate math teachers who are available during the school day for 2-3 hours per day to work with students in 2nd-8th grade. Teachers are not required to work with the full grade range, your range will be determined in your interview.
This program is funded by a grant to provide HIT (High-Impact Tutoring) to students in an effort to recover from learning loss during the pandemic. Teachers will work with students in up to a 4:1 ratio. You will work with the same small group of students who are assigned to you from beginning to end of the program. The goal of the program is to help students bring their foundational math skills up to grade level. We work closely with the math specialists at our partner schools to identify the correct starting levels and areas of opportunity in math for each student. This allows us to put together an individualized program for each student. Then, we adjust it regularly, based on their scores and your feedback, to make sure we get the most we can out of each session.
Teachers are expected to engage and interact with their students; we are looking for individuals in the community who see the importance of math skills and are passionate about helping our students become better students. We know that this will make our students more confident and provide the foundation they will need to be successful in all of their classes moving forward. There is no prep, planning or looking for curriculum. You will be paid for simply teaching the assigned program to your assigned students, each at their own pace.
