We are seeking a highly motivated scholar with expertise in Computer Science and a desire to apply their expertise to analyze the evolution of human social systems from pre-historic times up to the present. This two-year position is part of a project inspired by recent results uncovering deep connections among information theory, energy expenditure and harvesting, and computation. The goal is to investigate the long-term evolution of human social complexity through the lens of computer science theory. This position is based in-person in Santa Fe, NM.
The project aims to model societies as computational systems, examining how they process and store information to adapt to dynamic environments while leveraging increasing computational power to extract more energy from the environment in order to sustain and grow. By combining insights from theoretical computer science, social science, stochastic thermodynamics and complex systems research more broadly, this work seeks to uncover how social complexity scales with population size, energy systems, economic development, and technological advancements. The research also aims to illuminate both historical transitions and pressing contemporary challenges, such as the societal impacts of AI and other transformative technologies.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with PIs Kyle Harper and David Wolpert along with other team members to advance this project through research, publication, workshop organization, etc.;
Collaborate with social scientists to model social systems as computational processes;
Collaborate with social scientists to apply theoretical computer science tools to develop understanding of how the intrinsic computational limitations of human social systems depend on the sizes, communication networks, technologies, etc., of those social systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
o Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Social Science, or a related field (by start date).
o Experience with natural language processing, machine learning, or network analysis.
o Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with historians, archaeologists, and social scientists.
o Strong programming skills and familiarity with handling large, diverse datasets.

About Cooking with Kids (CWK)
Cooking with Kids (CWK) has spent nearly 30 years helping children discover the joy of cooking and
healthy eating through hands-on food education in schools across northern New Mexico. Each year, we
engage thousands of children, families, educators, and school nutrition teams in vibrant cooking and
tasting lessons that strengthen healthy habits and build community.
This project
This new family-friendly digital cookbook is part of our effort to bring the joy of Cooking with Kids
home-supporting children and families as they cook, taste, and explore healthy foods together. It also
offers a meaningful way to thank and highlight the sponsors and community partners who make our
work possible.
CWK seeks a consultant to design this bilingual digital cookbook (maximum 20 pages per language
version), using recipes and materials provided by CWK. The final product should be clear, smartphone-
friendly, engaging, kid- and family-friendly, and easy for CWK to update. The consultant should expect
iterative review and refinement in close collaboration with the CWK Executive Director and
Communications Director.

Job Description We are looking for a compassionate, experienced equestrian to join this facility as the Trainer/Caretaker of the owner's 3 forever horses. Aged in their early teens, the horses here have been trained up under Parelli principals, and do not have any competition goals or rigorous demands. This person will be responsible for exercising the horses on a daily basis in the arenas and on the trails, along with maintaining the highest standards of care alongside the rest of the 4 person team. With a typical work schedule running 7:30am-4:00pm just 4 days per week including weekends, there are generally at least 2 individuals working in the barn at all times. The ideal individual will have an easygoing personality but be accustomed to providing meticulous care for the horses at all times. This person must be well experienced in western riding principals, and have a gentle, horses-first mentality. There is a team of maintenance professionals who handle all facility upkeep, fence fixing, etc - and the cattle and donkeys are not the responsibility of this individual beyond basic oversight in the event of an emergency. This is truly a position centered around providing the best possible care for the 3 horses on-site for the duration of their lifetimes!
