In this role you will get too: Responsible for administration of ionizing radiation to patients of all ages for diagnostic and/or research purposes, providing patient services, and performing radiographic procedures using radiographic modalities. Will also be responsible for performing tasks to support pre-analytical and post- analytical functions within Essentia Health Laboratories. Promotion of patient safety while performing specimen collection and processing.
Education Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:
* General x-ray: Performing supervised and unsupervised x-ray exams in an outpatient & inpatient setting
* Providing optimal patient care utilizing established and accepted techniques during administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging that is appropriate for the age of the involved patient population (ages 0 to death)
* Upon proven competency, operators are limited by the exams they can perform on small children and babies. Evaluation of abilities is approved and documented by a manager or QA Tech
* Safe transfers of patients to and from wheelchairs/carts with knowledge of safe handoff
* Assist with department workflow by completing exams in EPIC/PACS and cleaning/stocking exam rooms
* Following instruction from staff technologists and establishing good communication with other departments
* Collects specimens through venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other miscellaneous specimens (Urine, swabs, etc.)
* Performs specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing
* Performs laboratory testing, when applicable, per accreditation and licensure requirements
* Participates in training of new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate

Educational Requirements:
* High School Diploma
* Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or complete an internal MLA training program within 1 year of hire
Required Qualifications:
* If not certified or have limited scope training upon hire, must enroll in the Radiologic Operator training through Essentia Health

Job Summary

Qualifications

A Brief Overview Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related continuing education. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines including but not limited to: supply inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, etc.
Initiates and follows through with corrective action, utilizing MLS and/or supervisory assistance as necessary; prioritizes and manages effective workflow.
Accurately performs basic to complex clinical laboratory testing following established procedure, protocol, techniques and/or manufacturer guidelines.
Communicates laboratory data and pertinent technical information to appropriate departments, healthcare providers, and individuals in an accurate and timely fashion. Includes verbal as well as electronic means.
Critiques, correlates and differentiates results of testing utilizing theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, and independent judgment; seeks MLS and/or supervisory resources as necessary.
Assesses the validity of results which appear usual, or which may differ significantly from previous results or expected values and take appropriate corrective action as necessary with assistance from MLS and/or supervisor as needed.
Participates in established lab CQI or other laboratory activities as assigned.
Provides instructions on proper pre-analytical specimen collection, specimen handing, and storage guidelines for various body fluids and/or may collect specimens as necessary.

The Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing tasks to support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions within Essentia Health Laboratories. The MLA will promote patient safety while performing specimen collection and processing. This position will also perform waived lab testing following standards of accreditation agencies and state licensure requirements.
Education Qualifications:
$2,500 Sign-on Bonus! (for external candidates with 2-year employment commitment)
Schedule:
Night shift, Monday-Sunday (7 days on and 7 days off)
Pay: Based on experience plus night shift differential $5.50/hour
Key Responsibilities:
* Collects specimens through venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other miscellaneous specimens (Urine, swabs, etc.)
* Performs specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing
* Performs laboratory testing, when applicable, per accreditation and licensure requirements
* Participates in training of new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate
* Follows Essentia Health rules and policies while handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality
Educational Requirements:
* Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program
OR
* Completes an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
* Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
* Recent specimen preparation and processing experience
