Job Summary
The Estimator - Heavy Civil prepares detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for earthwork, underground utilities, concrete, and related scopes on public and private projects. You will analyze drawings and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, solicit subcontractor quotes, and assemble complete bid packages that position WW Clyde for profitable work.
Key Responsibilities
Review plans, specs, and addenda; define scope, risks, and bid requirements.
Perform detailed takeoffs for dirt work, trenching, structures, and paving using HCSS HeavyBid and Trimble Business Center.
Build cost models using current labor, equipment, and material rates; maintain the estimating cost database.
Evaluate alternate means, methods, and materials to deliver the best value.
Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes.
Participate in internal bid reviews, value-engineering discussions, and project handoff meetings.
Support operations with budgets, quantity reconciliations, and change-order pricing after award.
Ensure all estimating activities follow WW Clyde safety and environmental standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field - or equivalent estimating/field experience.
2+ years of heavy-civil estimating experience (earthwork, utilities, concrete).
Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid; familiarity with Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, Excel, and scheduling software (P6 or similar).
Solid understanding of construction methods, production rates, and cost‐control principles.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight bid deadlines.

The Entry-Level Estimator supports the estimating and preconstruction team by assisting with material take-offs, vendor and subcontractor quoting, and the preparation of accurate and timely project estimates for electrical construction projects. This role plays a key part in ensuring bids are complete, competitive, and aligned with company gross margin and profitability goals.
The Estimator E1 will work closely with Lead and Senior Estimators to review plans and specifications, analyze project scope, generate RFIs, and assist with cost analysis using estimating software and industry standards. Multi-tasking and prioritizing to ensure that multiple bids or assignments take place simultaneously as needed
Leads as a Bid Captain in the development of sales proposals. Knows how to take off estimates and price labor and material during the bid process; can define the scope of work; and ensures price coverage by vendors.
Keep current on changes and trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes and working rules
Able to perform their own takeoff responsibilities as directed while assisting in oversight of multiple additional precon assets working on same project or estimate
Provide in depth Peer to Peer Estimates with all downline personnel in preparation for Bid Scrubs and Executive Reviews
Assist in Bid Scrubs when Precon Manager requires in preparation for Executive Reviews
Review Specifications with team to ensure means and methods are correct
Training and Functional Requirements:
S., GED, management classes and / or 5 years field and estimating experience combined
Proficiency in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
Proficient in the Estimating program Accubid Classic, Accubid COR and Livecount On-screen Takeoff
A working knowledge of reading and understanding all types of blueprints for all trades
Skills:
