PHR is looking for an Estimator to join our team in the Costa Mesa, CA office. Relocation offered for the right person. No Visa or Sponsorship opportunities. Purpose of Role In this role as an Estimator, you will review requests for proposals; perform take-offs; attend site walks, formulate estimates; obtain and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and vendors; and draft formal written proposals. The Estimator will be expected to work independently on small to mid-size opportunities for private clients and public sector opportunities. The Estimator will also need to assist the estimating team lead on larger opportunities. Strong communications skills and experience in the environmental remediation field are a requirement. Primary Responsibilities Include: · Communicate directly with clients about planned remediation projects. · Review RFPs and assist upper management with Go/No Go bid decisions. · Attend bid walks as a company representative. · Engage clients about technical aspects of environmental remediation opportunities during the bidding phase. · Perform quantity take-offs and work with take-off vendors on larger efforts · Perform subcontractor and vendor outreach to support the bidding efforts. Review quotes for completeness and understand subcontractor and vendor assumptions/conditions. · Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of bids. · Prepare estimates using bidding software (B2W). · Prepare written proposals for environmental remediation projects. The proposals must include concise language, sensible budgets, and reasonable schedules. · Participate in proposal/bid reviews with upper management, to include identifying risk and opportunity. · Effectively communicate estimate information to field operations at pre-construction meetings. · Develop and maintain business relationships to increase bid opportunities. · All other duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications Ideal: · Can work independently on smaller opportunities and as part of a team on larger opportunities. · Possess strong mathematical and computer skills. · Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Project) and can learn new software. · Ability to breakdown construction operations into a logical sequence of activities. · Must be able to meet deadlines. · Effective oral and written communication skills. · Must be willing to travel throughout California for bid walks and meetings. Occasional travel out of State is also a requirement. · Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills. · Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies. · Ability to analyze and resolve complex construction engineering or design problems. · Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing. · Excellent customer relations skills. · Thorough understanding of remedial construction and terminology. Duties: Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location, and other factors to ensure high quality and timely estimates. Review drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions; record findings and solicit input from field operations to include in the final project estimate. Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase the competitiveness of the bid. Review take-off quantities to ensure the accuracy of data used in estimates. Utilize existing cost history as a check to complete estimate. Apply mathematical calculations requiring advanced analytical processes to ensure logically estimated costs are accurate. Present estimate and participate in bid reviews with senior project management to ensure accuracy and completeness. Communicate with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities to ensure competitiveness. Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of the scope of the job and critical means and methods of construction. Develop and maintain business relationships to increase bid opportunities in the regional market. Mentor estimating staff to ensure individual development and Erickson-Hall Construction Co. standards are met. Participate in and/or lead Design-build preconstruction services to ensure high quality, competitive estimates, and schedules. Participate in and/or lead means and method discussions, being the catalyst to drive creative thinking and innovative ideas that distinguish a successful estimate. Requirements: Minimum of 5 years Commercial and/or Public Works experience estimating construction projects of increasing complexity required. Knowledgeable about current construction methods, materials, and regulations. Ability to work under pressure and coordinate numerous activities and groups of people who need to cooperate to achieve maximum efficiency. Must have good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Excellent computer skills a must.
