Position Overview:
Reports to Chief Estimator; assists in preparation of time, cost, labor, estimates for supplies, equipment, or services related to earth, concrete, and/or structural work by performing the following duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Reviews estimates.
Visits work site to determine if existing conditions would affect the scope of work.
Performs quantity take off and pricing for civil work on bid projects; including excavation, shoring and other site work such as paving, concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, fencing, landscaping, structural demolition, other architectural and structural, building specialty, and electrical work as required.
Prepares subcontractor/supplier invitation list for quote solicitations.
Responds to phone calls from subcontractors to discuss scope of work.
Assists in drafting subcontracts as needed.
Assists in coordination of civil work with mechanical estimators prior to bid to ensure full scope of work.
Prepares estimating files for use by project managers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in engineering or its equivalent from an accredited institution and 3+ years progressive wastewater/water treatment plant estimating experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in California preferred.
Ability to accurately compute costs in a timely way using a computerized database.
Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts that include but are not limited to interest, percentages, basic algebra, and geometry.
Ability to collaborate with supervisor/s, co-workers, managers, employees, business associates, and customers.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Physical Demands:
Persons performing service in this position will lift up to 50 pounds of force or exert up to 20 pounds or more frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
This type of work involves sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and climbing for a varied amount of time.
