We are seeking a Senior Estimator to join an experienced group of estimators specialized in surface mining projects for processing plants and related infrastructure for a variety of clients across North America. The successful candidate will be responsible for full cycle (Estimate Plan to Basis) development of capital cost estimates supported by the Estimating Manager. Ranging from concept to feasibility level studies you will support the estimating effort working directly with engineering, procurement and construction to ensure timely completion of the estimating deliverables. Being a problem solver and bringing a pro-active work ethic to a dynamic environment will enable you to meet challenges head-on and be successful in developing capital costs for mining projects. This position may be based anywhere within the United States. PURPOSE The Sr. Estimator performs conceptual estimates, quantity take-offs and pricing for all phases of a project from its early inception through an approved working budget. RESPONSIBILITIES * Interface with clients, architects and engineers as directed during all phases of preconstruction services. * Develop and manage project quantity surveys, estimates, and budgets from conceptual design through completed documents utilizing staff and subcontractor input where appropriate. * Provide systems evaluation and value engineering on energy and life cycle costing during the preconstruction phase. * Prepare progress budgets to monitor installation cost trends of different construction materials and detect possible overruns. * Solicit subcontractor input at various stages of design development. * Attend appropriate architect, engineering, and client meetings as directed. * Assemble and distribute the published estimate and contract documents, as required. * Complete, review and execution of bid forms, bid bonds, etc. on bid projects including general requirements. Participates in and summarizes bid day activities. * Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * 5 years of successful experience as an estimator in construction-based field. * Ability to read and interpret conceptual plans, schematics, working drawings and specifications. * Adequate knowledge of construction costs, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, contracts and engineering principles. * Excellent organization skills and ability to meets deadlines. * Demonstrated knowledge of methods of construction practices and project execution. * Practical knowledge of construction trades. * Mathematical acuity. * Excellent communication skills and must work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. * Experience in WinEst program, Accubid or relevant estimating systems. * Experience working in Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, BuildingConnected, Excel formats and formulas. * Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy. The Jr. Construction Estimator is responsible for assisting the Estimating Team on plan takeoffs, understanding estimated costs and preparing project bids and budgets under the guidance of a Senior Estimator. Job Description The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be detail oriented. In order to be a qualified candidate for this position, you must have an advanced understanding of complex framing including, but not limited to, heavy timber construction, complex roof framing, structural steel integration with wood framing, lumber optimization, and most importantly, you will be generating lumber and hardware material lists for rough and finish carpentry. The majority of your time will be spent in our Reno office. However, the candidate must also be comfortable driving and working in all weather conditions and be willing to wear bags for layout and field supervision whenever necessary. Many years of field experience on complex custom homes is a requirement of this position. This job will also require the ability to generate well written RFI's. Candidate must be able to effectively communicate with clients, architects, engineers and our field staff. The qualified candidate must also be competent with Word, Excel, and Outlook, The candidate must be able to pass a full background check and DMV report.
